Hey guys and gals, I own a 1978 Snapper RER 30 inch cut...just got finished rebuilding a I/C 11 hp for it and she runs great...But I do have an issue that is really bothering me..For some unknown reason the grass when im cutting doesnt seem to cut very well.. Now before I go any further I will saw the at all of the following have been checked and rechecked to make sure they are correct; blade is plenty sharpe, belt is plenty tight, pulleys on engine and deck are not worn out. Now I am curious to know as to whether or not the deck is suppose to have any type of rakero it or not...I say that cause the rear of the deck does sit higher than that of the front ...I was wondering if that may be part of the problem

Thanks

Mark

:welcome: I am assuming that you do not have the blade upside down or backwards?

Hello Mark... WELCOME to LMF....

The front should be lower than the back of the deck... & like midnite rider noted... check the blade, it is very easy to have it upside-down...
I have read before of others having cut problems with 30 inch snapper decks, their problems were helped with blade type changes, what type of blade is on yours? is it the factory blade, a hilift or mulching blade?

LOL, yes the blade is installed correctly....Thankfully I managed to figure it out..As it turns out when I purchased the rider it wasnt running, It had an 8hp brigg on it and I upgraded to an 11hp I/C that I rebuilt. I never bothered initially to check the deck properly for levelness...The Right rear of the deck was up over 1.5 inches higher than the left side rear. once I made them equal by adjusting the chain adjusters the rider cuts like a beast.... I would also like to throw this out there, If you guys know of anyone that is in need of some "L" head briggs parts I have some that I might be able to spare...

Something that plagued mine, because of rough terrain here at the ranch, those chain links would get turned horizontal rather than stay vertical which screwed the level up . I solved that problem long before Snapper did by lacing a zip tie through the links . I still despise that thing so much I don't use it .
