mark, good ideas, your suggestions make me think of an auto CV joint boot also.

I have a 2" paint brush in a cup of grease just for greasing such. I dab the steering gears teeth every so often. The longer handle brushes work well.

Yes I always grease everything that moves. My murray rider does not have any grease zerks so I use my grease gun where I can and white lithium grease spray everywhere else

Your exactly right, otherwise metal to metal contact and over time metal shavings and worn out parts. Well said!

The more so in need of TLC as I do not see indication of hardened teeth under the paint. Mild steel will wear quickly increasing slop in steering.
