My 16hp briggs engine on a simplicity 7116 quits running after warming up. About 4-5 minutes and then will not turn over. After cooling down it will start up and do the same thing. What do I look for?
Don't have rocker arms it is not an over head valve head engineWelcome to the best mower forum on the interscreen.
Air, fuel, spark at the right time and compression are required.
1.Fuel cap venting. Hardly ever the cause.
2.Lack of fuel delivery or dirty carb. Trash in the fuel tank outlet normally covers your main complaint.
3.Stripped flywheel key.
4.Water in the gas.
5.Gas can with no spout passing trash, dirt, grit, leaves, bugs and water to the mower tank.
6.Fouled plug/s.
7.Valves way out of spec. As in loose rocker arms and so on.
Most of the time posts like this are number 2 above.
I have read most but fail to find "Check the oil"!!!! And a few posts will not reveal the root cause. A few have good feedback. I guess even this post might be of little value. Words can be misleading. When it trys to crank, are cables hot, what is battery voltage, is starter hot, how does this change from when it quits and will not crank. We need to separate a failure to crank caused by external factors or internal failures. My 16hp briggs engine on a simplicity 7116 quits running after warming up.
