My tractors deck link attachment bracket on the deck is broken off. I have no way of putting the link on. What should I do? I was going to put an L bracket on but I don't know if that's a good descion.

You can put a eye hook on the deck make sure use big washers. Or I bet for $20 you can get someone to weld a bracket on.

I had the same problem with my John Deere where I had no welder. I used your idea. I made a heavy duty L bracket from a peace of angle iron and bolted it to the deck and it worked just fine. Then at the end of the season I brought it to my shop and weled the orginal bracket back on plus some other bracket that were starting to crack. If you can do it for a nicer job bring just the deck to a welding shop and have it welded and that way when you are done you can clean the deck real well and repaint it. Then it will be like a new deck. If not and you don't care how it looks the L shape brackets should work just fine.

Good idea would I be able to bolt the L bracket without taking the deck off?

You shouldn't need to remove the deck. For me anyways I ran mine tractor onto homemade ramps so I could get my arm under under it. It doesn't have to be very high. When I installed the brackets I just drilled through L brackets and deck. Then I installed the L brackets to the deck with 5/16 by 1" bolts, flat washers, lock washers, and nuts. Then when you have everything installed give your job a coat of paint and it will look like it was made that way, all most.

Even if you need to take the deck off it takes less than a minute

Boy them decks must come off easy on the Craftsman. Anything I have ever taken the deck off from sure takes more then that. If it comes off that easy why not fix it right and weld it.

Lower deck all the way down pull two front pins then two middle pin then one back pin slip belt off motor pulley undo cable or rod that puts blades on and off put blade hight lever up pull deck out of left side very easy. Sounds like a lot to do but it is not. I have done it in less time then it takes to fill up with gas

I'm going to see if I can do it without removing the deck first. If I have to then I will paint it
