No, the tractor number won't give me any engine info. Go ahead and remove the hood and take some pics of the engine, the numbers should be near the spark plug.

Check the fuel filter and lines.

Make sure the gas is getting to the carb.
Take the fuel line off the carb and see how fast the gas comes out the line. Should come out a steady stream.

Take the air cleaner off and when it starts dieing shoot starting fluid down the intake to make sure its starving for fuel. If it is I would check the float to make sure it is moving freely and also make sure the float needle is moving freely
