Just read this on Facebook from exmark

While it seems like a chore at this time of year but mowing the lawn has actually been found to be relaxing and can improve mental health.

Whether it's the sound of the lawn mower, the smell of the fresh cut grass or the look of a freshly mowed lawn, research shows mowing has some real perks.

"My friends joke with me because Yankee Candle produces a candle that's called lawn mower and it's the air freshener in my vehicle so I do like it. I enjoy it enough that I want to have an air freshener that smells like a lawn," Kansas State University Turf Specialist Jared Hoyle said.

Hoyle said mowing is a chance to get away from the office, turn off your cellphone and just have some time to think—but there's more. Researchers from the University of Queensland Brisbane discovered that a chemical released from a mowed lawn actually makes people feel happy and relaxed.

There is even a scent available called "Eau de Mow" with the same calming effects. However, while you're out relieving some stress, keep in mind that you can put stress on your lawn if you get carried away and cut it too short.

Keeping your grass a little taller will also help you conserve some water, because the taller blades will provide some shade.

Cars, Thanks, but sometimes instead of a little "eau de mow" on the wrist don't you just feel like injecting it? Like when equipment breaks down. You know you may be in the wrong business when "eau de mow" is produced in 50 gallon barrels and sold in 1/2 ounce vials.

It smells better when it is someone else doing the mowing.

The mow in mid November to early Decmber, the one with all the dust and leaf mold. The one where the stink from your Lawnboy 2 stroker or your old worn out Toro four stroker that burns oil is sharp in that crisp fall weather. That sweet almost herbicide stink that the Locust tree pods make as they shatter through the mower. That is the one. The really stinky dusty nasty one. That is the smell that Im looking for that time of year. That means its the last one for the season.

We cut fescue all year. Things will slow down the end of November. That gives me 3 months to build a mower. Going to try and build one anyways. Going to make a frame and a deck and add what I think are the best parts.

you going to use that mower in the mowing season or sell it?

I will keep it don't know yet how good it's all going to work. The frame and deck are easy to build.

I am taking what I have heard on here and what I like. Going to try and build it with things people have said they wish a riding mower had or could do. More for fun than anything else. This will be my third one.

No that's to easy.

4wd with option to free wheel the front wheels.

Going to use mtds drive set up but with a 6 speed rear end so you can cut grass at 4 mph or go to the store at 30 mph.

42 inch deck with 4 blades Not sure what brand spindles yet.

Steering will be a rack

That's the basic plan

well if you want to go 30mph, then i would want to have a rack and pinion! how are you going to do the whole belt deal with a deck? i assume your putting a bigger pulley on the engine for the drive belt to make it faster?

No need for a bigger pulley.

The deck will have two 5/8 belts

This is how the drive works
Take a MTD with a two gear trans and swap the rear end with a 6 speed off a craftsman using the rear end pulley off the MTD so you still have the 7 speeds on the MTD plus the 6 one the rear end from the craftsman.

I started a thread about a year and a half ago on a build and no one ever post on it so I stopped putting pics on.
I will look on my old phone and find some pics.

It's a lot of fun thinking up things and building them.

Nice:thumbsup: I've always wanted to build a rat rod too. I'd really like to do one with a tractor trailer, preferably something with an old two stroke detroit

Doing a rat rod is fun no matter what you do to it no one can say hey that's not right or that model did not come with that.
I enjoy just sitting in the shop full of mowers and doing what ever pops in my head.

This will be my first tiny making my own deck and frame. I think a 4 blade 42 inch deck I should be able to mow faster.
Going with BIG hp and big chrome stacks.

Still keeping my eye out for the start of a rat rod

Or.....maybe huffing too much of that eau de mow:0)

Do we have to stop mowing:0(
I'm getting to where it's so much fun mowing with that ZTR I wanna do it year round(except maybe the weeks when there is snow on the ground:0)
Most likely my neighbors would begin to look at me a little strange(and doubt my sanity) when they went to their mailbox in January and there I was.......mowing non-existent grass:0)

I really look forward to seeing some pics of what you described as your latest "project in your mind".....I'm impressed with your ingenuity and consider you somewhat of a mechanical genius. I started to post a reply to that thread you started and said no one responded to...but I was shy when I first joined the forums(but as you well know.....I got over that:0)

P.S.
lmf,
Does my flattery of user carscw get me any extra points towards becoming a LAWN KING like you???
Of course those points might get offset by me referring to him as a Georgia Redneck:0)

Would not say I am a mechanical genius I just enjoy building things. I have many mowers out back and like things about them all but not one has everything I would like a lawn tractor to have so my thinking is why not take what I like from each mower and build one.

Before you bought your Ztr you looked at many mowers. One thing that got you to buy the one you have is the deck lift. Now would it be nice to take that and put it on one you liked other things on?

P.s
Country boy is more political correct
