When I tell people that EV are substantially dirtier than an IC I get howled down .
Then you have to explain the complex chemistry of mining and refining Li & Co to people who can not understand how Na & Cl , both poisons come together to make table salt .
The fact remains that making an EV will generate the about same amount of pollution as making 200 to 300 conventional cars ( depends upon how much aluminium & composites are used ) .
Very few EV's will have a service life exceeding 10 years and in use this an go down as low as 5 years if you use the air conditiner a lot then the battery replacements will be more than 1/2 the price of buying a new vehicle .
Green energy is only light green as again there is a lot of pollution that is generated by making solar panels & wind generators all of which have short working lives , then there are transmission losses in getting the power to where it is needed .
Roof top solar ( which is what we should be using ) makes regulating the grid difficult as all of them were designed to be a one way system so we cut down forest to build solar panel farms or build them over old pasture thus removing large amounts of CO2 converting vegetation ( which always gets overlooked ) in the calculations .
Ev's and E-tools are convienant but they are not nor will they ever be clean
All they do is shift the pollution from your back yard to some one elses .
Japan & China plus to a lesser extent the EU have the right idea
Bullet trains powered by the cleanest possible power will do 10,000 times more to reduce CO2 pollution than electric mowers car or chainsaws .
Even better still they allow workers to commute large distances very quickly & cheaply so city sizes can be constrained and forests surrounding cities can be maintained which is vital for several reasons .
But of course that would mean the very , very , very, very, very very rich could not continue to put your money into their pockets by continually buying land on the rural outskirts & convert it into unliveable suburbs that create massive traffic problems & require enormouse amounts of energy to heat & cool
