Is it just my Kohler on my 2010 Cub Cadet LTX 1040, or are all of them this way.
Earlier this year when i was changing the oil in the Scrub, i cross referenced the krohler filter to WIX, went to the auto parts store, found the exact number on the filter, bought it, took it home, It doesn't screw onto the threads, the threads dont even start to grab!, so i get a fram, it was a no go, I got the Autozone brand filter, it still didn't work on the threads. Finally i ordered the Kohler filter for it off the internet cheapest i could find ( 9.99) and the day i got it, Eureka! it worked!
I was wondering if anyone else has had the same trouble with their 1040?

I always buy Kohler so would not know. It is such a cheap cost I see no reason to not use them.

Every now & then I come across an engine where nothing but an original filter will fit properly
This can usually be fixed by dressing the threads.
I find this strange because I usually fit OEM after market filters . Not the cheapest filter from a different factory.
However if the OEM one does not fit the customer simply pays for a genuine one, not a big deal for most of them.
And down here a genuine filter can be around $ 25.00 ( Aus ) against $ 9.00 ( Aus) for the after market.
This happens with all engine makes, not just Kohler.
However you might just find the crosses you tried were wrong because the interchange charts were were wrong.
We don't know because you did not post the actual filter numbers you tried.

As Bert said the crosses might be wrong?? I use Wix, Baldwin, or NAPA on Kohler engines and never had a problem. I only time I ever use OEM filters is when I work for a dealer.

Kohler # = KH-12-050-01-S
Wix 51056 / 51056MP / 51335
Fram PH10960 / PH8172
Carquest 85056 / 85335 ( looks familiar cause Carquest are made by Wix. )

N2 8553 is a Chinese made filter distributed through the N2 network where did you get that number from ?
N2 8553 is not a Kohler part number , where did you get it from ?
The owners manual which is a free download from Cub Cadet lists KH-12-050-01-S as the number for the filter on page 30 in the photo list of consumer service parts.

There is a reason why parts suppliers are always asking for the number off the mower tag & the serial number from the engine

Online is last place I would buy oil filters, who knows if they are 2nds or been wet or what ever.

I put on the OE filter, that gets put in my hand. And sleep like a baby.

And as for a fram, I would NOT use FREE filters from them. Just my .02
