I always buy Kohler so would not know. It is such a cheap cost I see no reason to not use them.

Agreed. I have Kawi engines on my big mowers, not Kohler, but I also buy OEM because it's not like it's an expensive item. I also change my oil filters at every oil change rather than every-other-one as specified in the manual.
