Best Small Mower ??????

The 15yr old 36" Scag is a bit of an Overkill for my new (smaller) yard. (Plus it's been running awful lately)
What is the "Pro's Choice" in a smaller mower ???
It needs to be Strong enough for thick Florida St. Augustine grass and Self Propelled.
I'm guessing something with a powerful Honda but I haven't been keeping up with what's out there.

If you want something with a powerful Honda engine, I think the HRX217HYA is your best bet. It is not a true commercial mower, but can easily stand up to the test.

If your looking for the best small mower or self propelled push mower to buy I'd go with the Toro Heavy Duty 21" with the BBC model 22298 or the Toro Turf Master 30" both have or are running the Kawasaki FJ 180 KAI 6hp commercial engines. I use the Turf-master daily in St Augustine grass without problem, even in wet grass it has the best cut of any push mower I've ever used.

Thanks guys. I was at a Honda dealer today but that Gravely is certainly worth a look. Those rear wheels loom pretty serious.

I like my Toro's. I have two of them and both many years old and still run and cut as good as it day I bought them, I bought them used. The only things I have done to them is change blades and wheels. I am sure there are other good brands out there also.

Anything with a Kawaski FJ180v motor. Really good motor with pressurized oil system.

I have a YBravo. No one talks about it and I am one of the only ones that has one, but it is one serious machine! It is offered in both 21" and 25".

I've used the commercial toros for years my only complaint is that the crankshaft gets bent easy. That's the kawi engine... Just.don't hit anything than you should be fine I agree that's one of the most powerful engines on the market

Snapper self propelled friction disc drive. Those will cut anything. I have one the old red with white Briggs 4hp cast iron electric start. It will cut up the aluminum soda cans with no problem and wont stall the mower either. I also have newer one from the 90's.

I agree snapper disc drive is the best set up

Those disc drives are nice my snowblower has a friction disc set up and will push anything and never loses traction. Honda commercial engines are good to, and I think kohler makes decent small mower engines I've heard good things but never ran one

I think there's couple of Husqvarna walk behind models that have the 6.5hp Kohler engine on them.

For St. Augustine? Find an old Snapper Wisconsin Robin 2cycle. Eats right thru it.

Just curious why are you cutting up soda cans? Myself I pick them up and bring them to the recycle center. 5 cents a can we get.

I was curious one day and wanted to see what would happen if I mowed over empty soda can and it can came of the side discharge in bunch small tiny pieces.

I can rip a can apart with my bare hands  what would impress me is the ability to destroy larger rocks without hurting the mower maybe 3" or 4" in diameter lol

.40 a pound or so here... hardly worth it with all things considered.
Tool fool.. every mower suggested so far is a winner. I'll add exmark to the mix. Mine has a Honda 5.5 which would seem underpowered compared to the Honda 6.5 and the Kawi fj180 but it isn't. I just sold a Snapper disc drive w/ an FJ180 and I agree that's a good mower. Everybody has a favorite brand and size so you'll probably end up testing a few and getting the one you like best.
