Were you looking for the sticker on the hood that has all the part #'s on it? I have seen those stickers have the wrong part #'s on them before, even on new products. I look them up now, just to make sure, after trying to struggle with a wrong size belt!

B&S 28hp Commercial Turf engines are prone to leak at the sump gasket The HG wheel motors, the charge pumps leak,out the very bottom. Identify were the leak is & we can give advice on the repair!

Scags are good mowers for sure but, no matter how good they are, they all wear out. Being set outside is not that great on them either. Those 19 hp Kaw engines on those had the oil drain petcock leak oil out, fairly easy & cheap fix...hey also had the Charge Pumps leak on the wheel motors, not...

Always engage your PTO at full throttle.

That area of the cyl head is called the quench area. The same for that area of the piston. From the looks of that head, i'd say you have a stuck top ring at some place on that top ringland, letting compression leak by, causing too much crankcase pressure. Engine problems will follow!

And I might add....the more oil you mix, the HOTTER the engine gets and, we all know TOO MUCH HEAT is a killer to most engines!

If mixed PROPERLY with fresh gas.....it's good stuff, we sell a ton of it!

Probably the clamp that holds the throttle cable in position has loosened up and let the throttle cable move. They are notorious for that to happen. Some engines are worse than others as B&S and Kohler has their throttle assy on the bottom of the engine, right next to the exhaust & muffler, were...

I can't say I've ever seen a metal "gasket" for a carburetor, a metal exhaust gasket ,yes. I have seen a metal heat shield in between the carb, carb gaskets and the engine though.....maybe that is what you're seeing! And if yours never had it to begin with, don't worry about it!

I do it all the time....works well but, not everyone can do it and, if you can't....that is what shops are for!

Do you work at a Mower Dealership or Independent shop?......or neither and just like to contribute? What brands of equipment do you sell and where? I'll start off.....I work at a Mower Dealership in MO. We sell Ferris, Bad Boy, Cub Cadet, Shindaiwa products.

I wouldn't either....IMO, too many hours = too many wore out parts. Besides the engine being an expensive piece, there are wheel motors on each side, plus dozens of wearable parts from the front to the back. Again, this is just my opinion!

Might be a bad battery. First...yes, it's a 12v system but, 12v is not enough in a good battery. Second, you need to check the battery volts under a load, when you engage your starter, and see what your battery V is the moment you engage the starter! Having 12v, in a 12v battery, and thinking...

If you're talking about the deck front to back, that is what I call, deck rake.... you really measure the blades in the deck, front to back, I like the front 1/8" to 3/16" lower then the back.....this is blades, not the deck! Also, the bottom of the deck all packed full of grass, will not mow...

Full throttle at all times, as long as the gov. is working, is WAY better on a mower. Better for Oiling, Better on cooling of engine, Better on all drive systems, Better cut, Better everything......you can buy it or not!

Yes, a wiring problem can be tricky to find. If you can't read a wiring schematic / diagram....i'd say find another mower like yours and take pics of the wiring.

Why not buy a self-propelled mower that has an engine on it?

Kinda sounds like a coil is breaking down when it gets hot, that is a classic "bad coil" symptom...either that or someone accidently ran gas with not enough oil mix in it?

Welcome to the forum...Those mowers, as with most, have several linkages, pulleys and belts....check these parts to make sure they are working correctly.

Doesn't matter if the fuel shut-off is before or after the filter I wouldn't pay $1 more a gallon during the mowing season, not a bad idea for setting through winter though 87-91 Octane for mowers

Actually, I do match that factory angle with the belt sander when the blade is in real good shape, which is NOT often. Most get the angle grinder! New blades for Insurance reasons.....I'll have to tell my boss that one! And a $100 an hr dealer......no comment!
