    Govenor control arm & Carb

Those original carb were easy to repair. Most common problem was a bad pump diaphragm Or possibly a warped tank. I’ve found that if I replaced the diaphragm and then sealed the carb to tank with a silicone sealant I could bring them back to life. Diaphragm parts number is 391643 and no gasket...

    Craftsman E405 Edger won't start

Sorry Hammer, but you’ll have to get steptoe to help you. He’s worked on cars, trucks, and heavy equipment, plus he knows how to balance an opposed cylinder engine with 4 carbs. This would mean he knows how both primary and secondary carbs need to work together when not getting fuel.

Cub LT1050 dead in the water.

At this point I use this procedure to locate the problem. Electrical problems can be very easy or very difficult, depending on four things. 1. How well you understand basic electricity. 2. What tools you have and know how to use. 3. How well you follow directions. 4. You don't overlook or...

    Dirt Tornado!

Mulching works fine if you have a deck designed for mulching, most are not, just say so. My 1996 Toro 16-38 has been mulching only since I purchased it and does a great job. To bad todays mowers are not built like this one.

On that engine there is no intake manifold, the carb body acts as one. You will need to purchase the carb Briggs part number 299437. With a little searching you should be able to find one. Can I ask why you are in need?

Cub LT1050 dead in the water.

Simple things first. 1. Unit is in park, brake petal fully depressed. 2. PTO switch is OFF. 3. Fuse is good. 4. Battery connections clean and tight. If all these are good, report back with units model and serial numbers (under the seat) and engine numbers off the Kohler ID tag.

    Craftsman E405 Edger won't start

You sound like you are a freshman student who just walked into my Small Engines class on the first day and with a few questions thinks they can be a small engine mechanic. Craftsman is not a brand name, just a company who sells equipment they have other manufacturers build for them. E405 is...

Let me see if I’ve got this right. You have a Briggs engine, because you posted this in the Briggs section of this forum. Am I right? You have some sort of ride on unit, because you say you have a transmission and a brake. Am I right? You have a linkage which goes from one side of the...

What would you say if your first sentence read? “This car is a 4 cycle machine.” I’ll bet you would say this guy is nuts. Here’s a few questions you would be asking if you were a local mechanic. 1. What brand of edger? 2. What model or model number? 3. What brand of engine? 4. What are all...

    Old 5HP Rototiller fouling plugs.

Your last post shows you’re in way over your head. What are you looking for by removing the crankcase cover? Chances of removing the cover without damaging the gasket are next to zero. You also must clean the crankshaft, or you’ll ruin the seal. If you are not careful you‘ll have tappets on...

    How to Set Idle

Toro Super Recycler wheel locking backwards

I’ve been working on Toro mowers since 1981 and I would never recommend reusing the drive gear off an old wheel, even to an experienced person. If not done perfectly you will ruin the new wheel and will have to purchase another one. How is that saving money. Second, I recommend changing drive...

    ZD-28 fuel pump

Most experienced technicians on this site will tell you that buying parts on AmaScam is a crap shoot. Most of us won’t do it. Many times it ends up costing more when you include labor and down time. I know it may initially cost more, but I don’t worry about will it last.

    How to Set Idle

I just took a look at three other Kawasaki manuals and I think the speeds posted in the 580 manual is a misprint. Should be 1550 RPMs for idle speed and 3600 RPMs for high no load speed. Someone put a space in the wrong place.

    STX38 transmission

I’m guessing that the drive belt tensioner is not moving freely or pulley is bad. Also when was the last time the belt was replaced? When you reply be sure to include the units model and serial numbers so we can see the drive system.

    How to Set Idle

The service manual does a good job of explaining how to assemble and adjust the governor. Your question about rpm’s has to do with idle speed only, which should be set between 550-600 RPMs. I suspect you have not set the static governor speed correctly. Reread the section (3) on how to do...

  35. R

Fuel and starter solenoid no click. No hour meter.

Simple test, depending on whether you have a 3 or 4 post solenoid. On a 4 post solenoid connect 12VDC across the two small terminals. Positive on one negative on the other. You should hear the solenoid click if it is good. On a 3 post solenoid connect the positive lead on the small post and...

Rough Idle - Dirty Carb or Something Worse?

Once again you don’t want to hear what Tiger and I are saying. In my couple of years servicing small engines I’ve seen more than one carb that looks clean, but has a blocked passageway. If you are depending just on your eyes to diagnose a dirty carb, there is not much help we can offer...

Fuel and starter solenoid no click. No hour meter.

If you have 12+ VDC at both small terminals on the solenoid with the key in the start position, but 0 VDC on the second large terminal, I would be replacing the solenoid.

I think I’m smart enough to know that. You asked what size will fit? With modifications you can make anything fit. With your last post, why did you ask your first question? I’m saying BYE, as you are smarter than me.

More than likely the float needle failed, allowing gas to flow through the carb, into the cylinder and then into the crankcase. Solution rebuild the carb with a new float needle.
