Strato carbs are higher turns. 2, 2.5, 3.0. I had one that wouldn't run until 3.5 out. I dislike strato carbs.

Probably a Zama C1M-W26C. I don't have any new or rebuilt ones. Check your pump and metering diaphragms - any stiffness or click = need to be replaced. Zama is a PITA - they have 150 cube carbs and 147 rebuild kits. Walbro has 150 carbs and 4 kits. You never have the proper Zama kit around...

Scrubcadet, I have a 3-4 of these in parts boxes. When they have scored P&C, they aren't worth rebuilding, $-wise. What parts do you need?

Poulan saws normally have the model # on clutch cover, recoil housing or both. I have a wood shark model 1950. Post a pic of all 4 sides of your saw if don't find it.

Shift Fork 22 slides Clutch Collar 17 either Right or Left (1 is forward, 1 is reverse) to engage bevel gear 15. Then Pinion Gear 9 turns output shaft/pulley.

You need to see if runs normally for 5-10 secs. Try spraying fuel into carb throat after a helper pulls cord. A shot every 1-2 secs to keep it going. If it runs normally, you still have a fuel delivery problem. fuel may be in bowl but it's not traveling thru main jet to the combustion chamber...

What's the engine model#? You may have messed up the recoil spring or starter pawls. When you pull the rope, a spring starts compressing. When you release rope, spring relaxes and pulls rope back in. Pull blower housing and inspect.

Assuming Auto Choke-Tstat-Air Vane model. Pull the air filter and look at choke plate. It should be closed when engine is cold. If not: tstat, air vane or spring problem. If you have a primer bulb, push it a few times, start engine, have a helper push bulb every second or 2. See if it keeps...

I've have a 422707 on my GT. '89 year. Keeps on chugging. A little fuel thirsty. You do have to re-build the fuel pump on carb every 3-4 years. But now - they have AM carbs for ~$30. I'd get another Opp Twin in a heartbeat.

I agree with dealership...if you can't wrench on it yourself. But we don't have any Craftsman dealers here, so big box is the only choice. K46 is good for entry level hydro...if you don't have many slopes or want to pull a heavy load.

The engine model would help. eg for Briggs: 28N707-1234-E1. You can push the lever all the way past fast, remove air filter, then look in carb throat and see if choke butterfly is closed.

Post the model # - eg: 13AN77TG766. Then can lookup the transaxle model. Also, the transaxle may have a sticker - eg: 618-04240.

I'd stay away unless you can perform at least moderate wrenching yourself. IPL shows Hydro Gear 321-0510. It may be totally shot. A new one is $600+. I'd bet it's an entry level unit that doesn't like slopes or towing at all.

Figure out which line is which. Open the cap, dump fuel, look in tank. Use a bent coat hanger to pull line to tank opening. Is a fuel pickup (filter) attached or floating free in there? Either the blue line is the fuel supply w/ pickup on end or purge return line with just a short line connector...

Sounds like battery is low and needs more than a trickle charger - like 2-6 amp overnight. Battery may be failing and not take a full charge. Can get it load tested at auto store or just buy a new battery.

I doubt that is enough fuel. Spray 2 secs of WD-40 or such in plug hole and try.

Oh, you have a slider choke plate. If your carb matches it, can get W13 carb and pull choke plate and rod out. I put screws with locknuts in the rod holes - or it lets unfiltered air into carb throat. Check that throttle cable connector hole and impulse hole are in the same place comparing old...

Like Bert said - you need to turn it a FULL turn. You can get past compression by hand. You can bypass the solenoid with jumper cables to the starter terminal and a ground.

Getting info is like pulling teeth here. So, the pinion gear goes up...it meshes with the ring gear? it turns the FW and engine spins? Pinion just grunts and FW doesn't move? If the starter spins the engine at a fast clip....the no run issue is elsewhere....fuel, compression, timing, etc.

Try starting while looking at how pinion interacts with ring / FW gear.

I'd guess your starter pinion/bendix gear is chewed up. They are usually nylon or plastic. Post your engine model # - on a valve cover or shroud.

This saw is a Poulan 2300. The clutch cover comes off to get to plug. IIRC - 1 bar nut, 1 vertical screw, 1 horizontal screw. There is no purge bulb (2 cycles purge air from carb. It's not a primer, like in a 4 stroke). IIRC, 14" of fuel line, so 10-20 pulls when cold. Sometimes, I would charge...
