I've seen this a few times. Not common for sure. Weak coils and high resistance plugs. Always run non resistor plugs for the win. Again this is another scenario that you must load test electrical circuits. Cool posting and thanks for the refresher.
Another satisfied customer. Great to hear you found something. And thanks for reporting back about it.
You know that carb needle/seat needs pressure tested at 7psi?? Think I mentioned that. Get to work buddy LOL.
As in like a new one, clean?
From the tank outlet to the carb inlet, all the way?
Was this tested? Does it work and actually pump fuel?
These items tested? Can this ignition system jump a 1/4" gap in free air?
I'm with kbowley, carb after fire solenoid working?
Will it fire with starting...
Nice work getting her going.
Sometimes you have to do this.
Highly over looked. Nice catch.
Can happen anytime. Install a good filter and cross your fingers. Could of pushed some trash further into the carb as you are saying while cleaning.
Most 1/4 inch cheap push mower filters don't seal...
Sound has zero to do with it working. Plunger shaft could be corroded off. Solenoid still clicking away. You need to visually test this part with a 9 volt or turn the key on and off. Simple as that. No need for 4 pages of correspondence.
2 wires on most solenoids. One has 12 volts key on. 0...
Make sure you are at TDC or another place where the valves are purposely closed doing a leak down. Just saying....... Like valve adjustments checks and being on TDC. There are 2 TDC strokes in a 4 smoke engine.
Do you mean valve cover? If so the valve cover doesn't hold anything on other than itself and or maybe a gasket.
You need to FLUSH, BLOW and reverse blow the tank out. If you have a 90 degree hose barb on the tank outlet, make sure you have flow there as in a good solid stream. Be looking at...
Delete that check valve you installed. No need for one or Kawi would of installed one for you.
I bet a foul fuel line or tank plugged with trash. Those 90 degree hose barbs on the tank outlet love tank trash.
95% of the time it's fuel related.
1.Drain, flush, blow, reverse blow, and inspect any right angle fuel hose barbs for blockage. Make sure fuel tank is spotless like a new one.
2.Install all new fuel lines to the carb.
3.New fuel filter if you have room.
4.Inline fuel shutoff valve install...
Really guy, you need more knowledge before trying to work on this. If you can't fix a Briggs single, you need more library time.
If you think another forum is your fix, think again. Here, you have access to some of THE BEST mower repair guys on the internet. It's hard for us to help you when...
Plug gap looks too tight. Open her up to your engine spec from your engine manual. Most are 30 thou. Check you manual out. Get rid of that Champion plug while you are at it.
Valves look okay. Can you spin a valve with your thumb, valves closed? If so the valves need lapped and are not sealing...
You can duplicate it with any mower. Pushers are easy. Let go of the deadman lever and listen to the engine slowly wind down. This kills the ignition. Hold the lever in just a touch from not touching. This keep the flywheel brake away from flywheel. Flywheel will slowly wind down from engine...
I would say a parasitic current draw. Something is drawing current with the key off. Need to go circuit by circuit and find it. Many youtubes out there on this subject.
New battery means nothing. Needs to be load tested. Auto parts stores check for free.
Save the old starter. Could be good. Take a jump pack and see if the starter spins over.
Agree check valve lash as ILENGINE said.
Tells me the carb needle is open.
You have to flip the carb OVER or upside down to pressure test the needle. Needle/seat needs to be wet while testing. Spray with PB Blaster penetrating lube or some other oily spray. Not silicone nor WD-40.
Agree.
You talking carb rebuild kit?
Pressure test the carb needle/seat at 7psi. Should hold for 30 mins.
Pull oil stick smelling stick for gas. Holler here if you smell gas.
Is your choke opening 100% when commanded?
Take an auxiliary fuel tank. See if she runs better.
You need a good spark tester that jumps a large gap. Not...
For one BRAVO.
Do you know, this is a YEARLY, or more often if you bag, maintenance item, in yours, an every other engine manual out there? Neglect the cooling fins and you are asking for engine damage. You should be doing this on EVERY air cooled OPE item you own. Great winter project. Pull...
Over filling the oil is one bad idea. ON the full mark is perfect. BELOW the full mark, no good. Oil is cheap. Keep her exactly on full on level ground. Check her every time you mow.
Remember you don't just toss on new head gaskets and cut some grass. You need to lap the head AND the area where the gasket sits on the block. Never seen a flat head pulled from an air cooler mower engine. Talking about 150 grit paper and a plate glass window. I use my side garage door window...
Does it start in 1-3 pulls? Do you have to pull your shoulder out trying to start it?
I would still pressure test the carb. Flip carb body over and pressure test the needle/seat at 7psi. Tell us what you get.
And get the PROPER lube at Tractor Supply called 00 grade grease. It has the consistency of pudding. Don't use traditional number 2 or 80w-90. Wash the trans housing and gears off with Diesel, old paint brush and paint pan. You can get a gallon of Diesel for roughly $3.75 now. Don't mess with...
Read head gaskets were replaced. Did you lap the heads and area where the gaskets sit, on the block? Just pulled one off a single cyl L-head. Was warped like all the others I've pulled.
Was this at slow or fast idle? Not recommended to idle one down unless yours is water cooled with a water...
The guy that has to change them after you do this will choke you out for doing it. LOL Around here when tire shops hear Fix-A-Flat, they send you packing. Won't even touch your junk.
Now StarTech, you KNOW you were supposed to fly to his house and fix it for free. So ashamed of you........ ;)
More like the guy needs a lawn crew. Might cut his feet off using that mower in his flip flops and shorts.
Inverter into a cigarette lighter, on that tractor? Love to ask why but......
Guessing from a far, some ignition wire got shorted from all the current draw of the inverter. Feeds 12volts keeping the ignition on??? You need to get an electrical schematic and trace it out.
Sounds like you've never done this before.
My friend, by all means,,,,,, take them to a tire shop. They have all the right tools and will be done right. As in not pinching the tubes and such.
Baggers need high lift blades. Mulchers like low lift blades like Gators. Your deck needs to be made to do what you wish. Deck and blades are a recipe.
Sounds like you need to cut more often or crank the deck up. Cutting seriously tall grass puts a lot of strain on the mower. Probably need to...
What I've learned when buying from evilbay or scamazon, don't buy the cheapest carb offered. Definitely get the one that says so many sold. And priced say 10 bucks more than the cheapest. A Rotary or Oregon even better of course.
Buying the cheapest, I've had to go through them looking for...
Is the dead man lever pushing open and releasing the brake that rubs on the outer edge of the flywheel?
Pull the small black wire or kill wire off the ignition coil. Should empty the tank out IF the ignition coil is good.
You need air, fuel, spark and compression. See which you are lacking...
