    Yep , that is a belt retaining spring it is supposed to be pointing upward not down It is designed to stop belt from jumping off the 90 degree pulley between PTO and 90 degree pulley Get a parts manual and it will show you where it should be positioned

    Not knowing a 5252 , but I will ask does it have drive barrels at either end of driveshaft , round soft little things that look like 1/2inch kegs If yes replace the lot

    As far as I know most small engines in this type of application hover around 3600rpm so it is no big deal

    What a lot of blokes have done with shot bearings in idler pulleys is to drill out the welds , install new premium quality (Timken etc) bearings and then bolt the 2 halves back together using a nyloc nut Works a treat

    Are you wiping a bit of oil around the seal on the filter , that assists in sealing and seating said filter and of course wipe the filter seat on the transmission

    I have used 25/1 for many years without a problem , had a few experts tell me I would be working in a smoke cloud , they were WRONG Just have a look at the small quantity of oil involved and think about how could it lubricate some 2 stroke running at 12000 rpm Thats why 25/1 is my go to

    Get your self a parts manual (download) that will show you what comes off , the rattle may be something behind the plastic shield at the rear of the motor easy off and check Give the engine a good blow over with a garden blower that will remove a fair amount of rubbish
