Had my mower for several years. Only thing I don't like about it is determining the gas level. Even when it was brand new couldn't visually see the level thru the white plastic tank. Miss the kind on my old Snapper that was part of the gas cap and noticed that in use on TB generators. My cap is large, at least 4", and can't seem to find one that has a gauge. Any thoughts?
 
Make your own dip-stick like they do in garages to assess the amount of petrol in the tank

Option 1 is to start with a full fuel tank and see how long it tanks to run it empty while mowing.

Option 2 fill it every time before mowing.

Option 3: A dry wooden paint stir-stick work really well for a rough gauge to measure fuel level.

The tanks are so well hidden and molded in odd shapes that a dial read type gauge would work. Aside from that, an aftermarket fuel cap is not sealed like a factory cap and that will increase the chance of water getting in the fuel tank.

This is one design that is not easy to remove the fuel tank for cleaning.
 
I like option 3 but I would use a new dowel and mark it when testing the amount of fuel
