    I’ve never seen a leaking cap cause the problem you described, but there’s always a chance. I suggest you use the mower as is, making sure the cap and gasket are tight. If you have no more problems, you’re in the clear.

    Blown gasket between cylinder and valve enclosure will increase pressure in the crankcase and cause the dipstick to bounce. Simple test when you are in the field and need to quickly diagnose the problem for the customer without tearing into the engine. Very little bounce if the gasket is fine.

    Before ordering any parts I would be checking to see if the deck belt is in good condition. If there is not enough tension on the belt or it is worn, it will allow the blades to spin due to a loss of resistance on the spindle pulleys.

    Front wheel’s should be nearly parallel and straight when the steering is centered . Toe out means the wheel is pointing out. Toe in means the wheels are pointing in. Adjusting the tie rods will change the position of the wheel.
