Do you have the old engine removed to get measurements from ? Is your crankshaft 3/4 inch diameter ? How long is the crankshaft ? With your old engine on a flat level surface (work bench ) measure from the level surface to the center of the crankshaft . This information for the Harbor freight engine is in the link I attached above. The bolts for the crankshaft is 5/16 x 24 thread, common 5/16 fine thread bolt if your Tecumseh don't match buy one . If the keyway don't match they sell a step key to over come that. The predator is 3/16 wide 1743000279026.pngI replaced my Briggs on my pressure washer with this engine with no thinking, I also replaced my Honda on my Log splitter with one of these and The bolts on my Honda where Corse thread and the Predator was fine thread. Take your old bolts with you to try and buy what you need while you are out and about. Get to this point and come back with smiles or frowns and all of us will be glad to talk you through it.

Questions you need answers to before you choose a substitute

Horizontal or vertical engine
diameter of the crankshaft
Length of the crankshaft
flange pattern (should be the same)
tapered or straight shaft
Where are the controls and exhaust mounted to be sure they clear the device the new motor will be going in.

The unit is 36 years old. In 1967 a buddy and I found a 1941 pre-wwII Packard that we restored. We thought it was cool. Another buddy had a 1941 Ford that was hot rodded. Those cars were only 26 years old - 10 years younger than your tiller. It better be pristine or you may be putting in a lot more money than it will ever be worth. Around here some of the big box stores were dumping the Legend Force 20 in. 212 cc Gas Rear Tine Garden Tiller for $299 about 90 days ago. There are some around here for sale at that price new still. Maybe near you too. I dunno. But, 1989 was a long time ago. When I need something for an old device I start on Ebay, facebook market place etc.. Someone with one like yours that is rusty, can sell the tines, motor, transmission as parts for more than the whole unit. Predator engines are what most people buy to repower old units if you want new but you have to answer the questions up above first.

here is an ad on ebay. Guy has 2108 sales & 100% rating. Why not contact him for an opinion. https://www.ebay.com/itm/304435486182?_skw=troybuilt+econo+horse+engine&itmmeta=01JQBBN2GN2VQ4W8N449FMYJFP&hash=item46e1c4dde6:g:ZrIAAOSwFy5bV4QO&itmprp=enc:AQAKAAAA4FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1edNbeqc8QBHE4Kn2Eoevs2e8OAhy5MriTTaygsMSNsqO+qLPQJvM9sb7zpRVD4Y9Qq0yE3ryBFztzeBuz/13TrZ0md/uc+zrOwP00buFH+jnO2MfZOF4068glotN3Wmy77nAh+ZlXEeMi7xfY/coTyZqCFMyaTCHa+aKrkcTZpPrZBDrTz98RFYNLrAAW0W0AZ3TCgJLVXMdsX79hHkuZuyHbJqXg5k2wPVAmJiU2wmwCIw1Bp2kjx0itmSWOb+99v/9N5cZjXQuaw0zUVa7Jm|tkp:Bk9SR8Sp1Ou6ZQ

"flange pattern (should be the same)"

If your a bit handy, a diffrent pattern shape/size, need not stop you.

NOTE; You must still end up with, the new engine, pto shaft (crank extension) in the same position as the original :devilish:

I have had good luck with a place called " Small Engine Warehouse " , they have a section on there site for " Repowering " your currant machine with the original style / size engine , just put in the info and they show you what they recommend . The only thing I found said your Econo Horse was a Tiller . Check the site , https://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/repower-kits/troy-bilt/troy-bilt-econo-horse-tiller/ Good luck

Several years ago, after some researching, I replaced a Kohler 7HP on a ‘79 Horse with a Honda GX200 6.5HP. It was a much better motor than the original, if only the axle seals hadn’t gone bad and a “helper” done more damage trying to get the wheels off. Now I have a good motor on an inoperable tiller.
I bet a Honda dealer could find a replacement for you.
