I have a LT 1500 Craftsman riding mower. The starter drive will not go up. I took starter apart and noticed a magnet loose. Will this cause the drive not to go up and engage? Also, what glue do I use to adhere magnet?
The magnet that surrounds the ArmatureNot sure where the magnet is that you're speaking about but never seen a magnet involved in a starter bendix
The bendix should engage when the starter spins up - there is probably a spiral on the starter shaft that makes it travel up to the flywheel then a spring to return it to it's original position on the starter when the mower starts.
Maybe post a pic of the magnet you're referencing
The starter motor is his problemThat's only for the ignition system - most are built into the flywheel- the " coil " is adjustable and should have a small airgap that reacts to the magnet on the flywheel and creates the spark and also helps charge the battery.
