Hello everyone, I just purchased a piece of property and it came with a Murray Model 80-4169 Lawn Tractor. After tinkering with it for a little while I was able to get it started and it actually runs very good. It will drive (very slow) in 1st gear and reverse but will not go in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear. I have mechanical skills but really don't have time to take apart the transmission or rear end to inspect and I'm not an expert on lawn tractors. I did drain and replace the rear end fluid. The old tractor is in pretty good condition and it has a big pine straw rake attached to it so I would really love to get it going. The previous owner used to hook it up to a Kawasaki Mule and pull it around the property to rake up the pine straw.

Any help or thoughts on what to check would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Wayne

Wayne,
Welcome.
There are members on this list who did not know which end of a screwdriver to hold when they joined
Learning and passing on "secret mower business " is what this list is all about.
Now we need to know the model and serial number of the mower and if you can find it the number of the axel or gearbox.
It could have a 5 speed peerless and a single speed diff or a combined diff & box.

There should be a decal under the seat on the mower's rear fender pressing.
The gearbox will have a name & number cast & stamped into it
The rear axel/diff will have a sticker at each end.
Now none of these may still be there so in that case a few picies will work wonders
