I'm Past 65 and like has been said... if you do not see the value of Twitter and Facebook, you are missing a lot in the way things are.... after all ...it's half past 2011, and time to look at some better ideas.
The business potential has only been scratched.... (that is why you will find places like this fine site, LMF, there)... :smile:KennyV

^^^Couldn't have said it any better myself. If you aren't using social networking to your own advantage I feel every business/company will start falling behind real fast. Web sites can be any where from $500 to THOUSANDS of dollars when you have at least 4 main Social Networking sites that are FREE and everyone knows about them and utilizes them. You have Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, and Youtube. You can watch video's on how to best use these for your needs and I strongly urge everyone to do so. Facebook is making me on average of $300-$500 a week in sales and its FREE for me to use!

Well, I'm old (55), use Twitter (to follow like minded business and interest people) and Facebook, half socially and the other half to 'Like' businesses who I can help, or can help me...so not everyone using Twitter and Facebook 'efficiently' is under 25.

I will hit the big "60" next month and belong to Facebook, but to me Twitter is just plain stupid and the name alone irks me big time. The problem with these social netbooks is that a HUGE NUMBER of people using them think they are a proper substitute for good manners.

I know one couple who have been marrried for three years now, I have to be friends on Facebook with them as they are relatives, what baffles me is that EVERY SINGLE FRICKING DAY they have to post on FaceBook how much they love their newborn kid. EVERY SINGLE FRICKING DAY !!!!! Can't morons like them find something else to blather about??? JEEZ.

I haven't found myself bored enough to get with Twitter yet, but I do like Facebook quite a lot because it has reconnected me with old friends from my hometown whom I haven't seen in ages. It's pretty much as dull or as interesting as your Facebook Friends are and your desire to talk to them. Some of mine got hidden right away for constantly leading with their politics or religion, but the fun and interesting ones can be... well, fun and interesting. Your mileage may vary.

Facebook is a handy way for small-to-medium sized businesses to connect with people, but it will never take the place of dedicated websites from which one can order goods. That said, I've "liked" or "friended" a couple of businesses whose products and the dialogue surrounding what they supply is interesting to me. I didn't keep too many of them turned on in my news feed for very long though, because they posted status updates way too often. The more savvy businesses on Facebook know they can get away with no more than two or three status updates per week before being turned off from all their followers news feeds forever. As an interesting side note, Facebook is being threatened by "Google+" right now in a big way which has Mark Zuckerberg scrambling with Skype. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out. Will Facebook be the next name in irrelevance like MySpace?

Social media guerrilla marketing is big right now. One of my friends runs a guerrilla marketing firm who hires folks to invade forums and news aggregate sites posing as normal users, who then drop little product placement bombs here and there. Not my cup of tea but he's making money. "Hipster" sites made up of college students and I.T. types like Reddit can spot shills from a mile away, but I see many posts on sites like this that raise my eyebrows. Not referring to the OP of course; he's straightforward about who he is and he's got little reason not to be, given Muhammad's relaxed rule enforcement here and at LMF's sister sites. Blatant spamming here doesn't seem to get much notice as the regulars, especially the ones who complain (like me), actually make up very little of LMF's overall traffic. Here, it's mostly people coming in from Google to do research and they may or may not even stop to ask a question. Ad threads generate posts and posts generate traffic. Traffic generates revenue and if LMF doesn't generate revenue, there will be no more LMF.

What ticks me off most of all about Twitter, Facebook, and their ilk is that sites like these allow people to be obnoxious, ingate a--holes while providing them a handy excuse for their behavior. Somebody gets a huge graduation gift from their grandparents, and 50 other people. well they usually don't bother to thank anyone for a gift, they send out a text or tweet or post on Facebook a generic HEY THANKS EVERYBODY and their 85 year old grandparents don't even know what Facebook is, much less have a computer.

The couple I mentioned who keeps posting daily "WE LOVE OUR KID SO MUCH" on Facebook got $15000 worth of bridal shower, wedding, and baby shower gifts from over 100 people but they NEVER, repeat NEVER, took a minute to call and thank, much less send a written thanks to ANYBODY who was generous and thoughtful enough to shop for, pay for, and give them a gift...

INGRATE, UNAPPRECIATIVE, SELFISH A--HOLES thought a generic HEY THANKS EVERYBODY on Facebook was sufficient appreciation. Told my wife I was never, EVER going to give those turds the slightest bit of recognition or even say hello to them at family gatherings in the future. She understands why I feel that way. So happy the couple is on HER SIDE of the family, if they were on my side I would give them pure H---

Every innovation (cars, telephones, internet, Facebook) has the power to be used for good, evil, brilliance, or stupidity. It all depends on how much you can tolerate the mix.

Okay, I'll break my word on not posting here again -

JD -

Do we need this again? Sorry your family is full of rot. Really am. But, your little slice of reality does not the whole reality make, so get off it. Post your dislike for them on Facebook!

Facebook is more than just your relatives that make you so irate. We get it already - and if we didn't - well, we can do a search on "ungrateful" and get an eyeful of what JD thinks of these people.

We KNOW - you wouldn't p---- on them to put them out if they were on fire. I have a feeling you hate them. Congrats. I hate spammers, but this thread seems to be right up top all the time.....and ol' mutton chops seems to still have the opening ad linked right up there.....laughin all the way to the bank and braggin on his profits off free stuff (including this forum)......so apparently it don't mean nuthin what we hate.

(done with JD - this is for everybody)

This guy can spam forum after forum, and not get banned. Let me post a nasty four-letter f-word, and see how long I last. See how long a thread with my true language lasts. Enforce the rules uniformly, or have no rules at all. If your rotten little dealership has to resort to exploiting this forum, then you just suck. If your advertising budget is all spent on annoying radio ads, and your only online schtick is free stuff, that isn't smart advertising - that's just arrogance. Shall I use a 4 letter f work here to exclaim my frustration and disapproval? I don't think so - because 4 year olds might be surfing this forum - and they have NEVER heard the f-word, right? Let's see who defends ME. I think you know who would. NO ONE. Who's gonna say anything? Not for me. I would prove it, but I'm not gonna give the lurkers the satisfaction. So just keep posting away and bumping the rulebreakers' thread like it's a big joke.

I'm just about done with this forum.....this thread gets replied to over and over, although it's a blatent ad. I'm glad you think it's funny - I don't....I have other places to hang out.

"Thanks for letting me rant".....guess it can apply to me, too.........
