We couldn't afford a new mower when I was first married so I bought a mid 60's round fender John Deere 110 - paid $600 for it (1990). It mowed fine for a couple times and then blew a had gasket. Fixed a couple times and it blew a head gasket both times.

I finally went to trade it in for a brand new shiney JD 170 - I think it was like 1990. The 110 was as old as I was at the time and they gave me my $600 back in trade because it was in mint condition (except for the 8hp blown motor) and they apparently were a collectors item. Wish I still had it as I see their price now - it was MINT too. They are one of those things that are worth more now than they were new in 1960's.

My first mower of any kind was something from what today would be called a big box store. The chain of stores went out of business long ago, and the only thing I can remember about the mower, other than it was a pretty candy apple red in color with a white rear bag, was that it had a Tecumseh engine on it. I didn't know a thing about mowers back then. We were newly weds with a new house and needed a walk behind lawn mower. That was in 1976.

That mower quit running after a couple of years, so I gave it to my brother-in-law. Seems the ground wire had a bare spot on it. He fixed it and used it for many more years. Then I got myself a Snapper.

Newlywed and needed a mower so I got a snapper hi-vac selfpropelled, loved it. sold it after I ran the drive wheel off of it because I didn't know any better. Wish I had it back as it was a great mower. Never let me down.

Mine was a Murray 20" push mower with a 3.5hp B&S engine made around the late 80's early 90's. I was young when my dad bought this mower. He put me to using it when I was seven years old to help him mow our yard and I carried on using it till I was sixteen, a year after embarking into the mowing business. Since then I have been using commercial equipment but I have never forgot where I started and what got started.

In 1954 I was given a pre WW2 cast iron reel type push mower that had a 1 1/2 HP Briggs power conversion engine kit installed on it. My dad and I were able to find parts for the mower and the Briggs engine and we got it running and used it at home and around the neighborhood until 1961 when I joined the Navy. Dad sold it around 1965 and bought a Lawn Boy rotary.

My first riding mower was yellow MTD from the 80's. First pushmower was a Snapper friction disc drive self propelled w/white Briggs engine from the 80's. First ever riding mower I rode on was a JD 318 tractor and Dynmark w/ rear steering. First pushmower I used was a Murray w/rear high wheels.
