what is most likely my problem

Older Briggs and Stratton I/C Deluxe 12.5 HP .. I can .. with or with out the spark plug in place, hand turn the motor a bit and it turns freely but it then comes up against a hard stop with a clunk.. what is most likely causes.. Thanks..

with the spark plug removed, stick a pencil or other object in the plug hole, as you rotate the engine, see if the piston is moving.

Piston arm sounds like it broken and is time for new engine or new mower

Your pistons connecting rod is broken from lack of oil or the engine over reved.
