What do you guys think of this mower?

Exmark Metro - YouTube

Thinking about buying this after meeting with a dealer yesterday. 36in deck was $3100 and I would add on the mulching blades and stand on kit. I'm buying for my own yard which is about 10,000 sq. ft. Looking to buy good, long-lasting commercial grade so that I get the best cut and manicured look to my lawn. The other dilemma I'm having is spending this much money versus getting a good 22 in walk behind for about $750. Thoughts?

See attachment to see how my lawn looks now as I want to get a mower that will maintain this image.

I don't know that that is the best 3k walk behind mower... but it looks like it should handle a homeowner's yard for a lifetime... It is likely Not intended for 6 to 8 hrs a day every day... but I would think it should easily handle your one hour or less per mowing ... for decades...

The drive system looks simple enough, is it serviceable?... I would be interested in the above deck belt layout and how "serviceable" the spindles are... & how and what they are made of... for a $3k walk behind I expect grease zerks conveniently located And steel spindle housings...
but if the price seems to match the build quality You expect, that is all that really should matter... :smile:KennyV

I agree with kenny's answer and would also add this to your other concerned dilemma...i would have that exmark before a 22" for that 750.00,also if you wanted to save a couple bucks maybe delete the stand-on kit. i'm not sure what kind of tracking it will leave on those stripes

Thanks for the replies. I'm very much leaning towards getting this unit. I'm buying from an independent dealer. Are prices at these types of places usually negotiable? I'm also looking to buy a Stihl edger attachment, string attachment, blower and trimmer.

The stand on piece that I'm adding has small wheels and the metal stand on piece helps to also deliver the striping. I've estimated everything retail out the door at about $5,000.

I dont care about the mower get what you like. Now the yard, that is a thing of beauty. I doff my hat. However, better add another hundred or two for a good pole saw attachment, those trees out in the middle of the yard look terrible.

Hmm... It looks like a good mower, but I don't know if I'd spend that much.

I spent $400 for my 15 inch walk behind, and yes, you would need a bigger cut than that probably, but my point is that mine works fantastically and leaves the lawn looking like a golf course.

If you spent say $1,000 on a wide cutting walk behind, I don't think you'd be disappointed, and your wallet would like you more

Those "tree(s)" are actually a SINGLE tree called a river birch.

That's the debate I'm wrestling with myself right now. While I don't mind to spend the money on a nice unit like this, the question is it justifiable for my use. I had a 21 in. push mower once and it took about an hour to mow the lawn sufficiently and it didn't look nearly as nice. The other option was to get an Ariens walk behind like this: Ariens Wide Area Walk Lawn Mower Review - YouTube which is about $1700 cheaper.

Seeing money is no problim why not get the best. I sure haven't been sorry I bought my Ferris. With good maintainance a good high grade mower should last for years and also do a better job mowing.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions. I ended up going with the Exmark Metro 36in. with Kawasaki engine 16hp. This units priced out at $3150 and I added the following features:

1. Micro-mulching kit: $199
2. Striping kit: $199
3. Bronco rider: $299

I think this unit offered the most bang for your buck for my personal use.

I got the Exmark Metro out yesterday for the first time and probably did the last cut of the season as well. The mower performed as expected. The micro mulching cut left no signs of grass clippings. The striping kit did an okay job, but it wasn't sunny, so striping didn't show as well as expected. This was also a 36 in deck. Kinda wishing I had went with a 48 in.

geez, now you have to wait till next season to really get some time on it:laughing:..so then with the 36"er how long did it take to mow the yard? longer grass blades will generally stripe better,(to a point)my experience anyway.good luck

It's definitely going to take some time and practice to get the striping and driving straight down. I kept the mower in 2nd gear and probably cut my time in half. I will try to post some picks later.

Here are some pics of the new mower. I tested it out yesterday and it performed well. The only 2 problems I saw with it were parts of the lawn left large tire marks (ground was somewhat saturated) and the intensity of the striping was not as intense as I expected. The striping kit weights maybe a pound and the grass pushes it back more than the striping kit pushing the grass. I'm thinking about either putting more weight and bolting it on so tight it barely moves. Thoughts? And I'm not sure if the tire marks are so noticeable because I have the bronco rider attachment?

That is one sharp looking mower, now what is this what you wish you had went with the 48 in cut. I am sure once you start using it you will like what you got. Also being smaller you will be able to get into tighter spots. Enjoy

Here iis a tip for ou also. i worked at a golf course when i was younger. they mowed the grass at different angles to keep the roots from pulling in one direction. they also inspected the blades on the cutting deck every 200 to 300 hours to insure there was no nicks in the blade and the were still sharp
