Mowing wet grass. Your expert opinion, please? Thanx!

Good luck.

Cutting wet grass is never fun but we all have to do it sometimes.

I lift my discharge shoot up so the grass throws out.
Cut a little bit higher
Go slower
Cut twice once up high then down low
Don't use mulching blades use high lift

Get someone else to mow it

(( racing is the only sport that you need two balls ))

I try not to mow grass when it's wet. It's too time consuming and too costly. If I have to I try to keep to a self propelled push so I can avoid the rutting problems.

See this thread for more info: http://www.lawnmowerforum.com/polls/13125-will-you-mow-when-grass-slightly-wet.html

I mowed when it was wet today. I started at 7:30 and the grass was wet from dew and rain, and then on my second lawn of the day it started to shower for a good 40 minutes, but I kept going. My Honda did fine in the rain...I was pleased. I didn't have a choice because I wanted the lawns to be cut for the 4th.

I did a lawn this morning after it had rained for the last two days, about 4 inches worth. In spots my Turfmaster tires were 2 inches deep in water. The lawn I did normally takes about 45 minutes to complete this morning an hour and a half. Decided it was my one and only lawn for the day. Just to dog gone wet and expecting morn rain today.

I have cut with a dozen different cutting machines in a couple inches of water, but it was a small area.

I would not suggest cutting your grass when it is wet as it will be more difficult and can cause damage to your lawn mower

With the New England rain we've been getting, cutting wet grass is no longer on the list of options - it has to be done, period. I guess I draw the line with places on my vast spread (nyuk nyuk) that are wet enough so the tractor digs up the ground. If I'm churning up mud, there's just no future in it. Otherwise I've mostly gone over the area twice using different mowing patterns. It's not exactly satisfying but beats watching the woody plants take hold. It can be dismal waking up and finding that ferns and toadstools have taken over the back yard.

Just be really, really careful if you're using a walk behind mower. It only takes an instant for your foot to slip under there.
