Multiple customers of mine have these water collection tanks to collect the rain water and use it to water plants. I think it's a great idea! Do any of you have one?

Serious??? Rain barrels illegal??? Oh my, what is next? Sorry, it just seems every time a guy turns around there is another social engineering law inacted.

Anyway, yes rain barrels are on my house. I need to install something like the one in your pic with the tap on them and a better lid, good ideas. Mine are just plastic barrels but we always collect rain water.

I don't do rainwater harvesting but am very interested in it. But, most of the systems you buy outright might take decades to pay for themselves and many DIY items are going to be ugly if seen from the street (blue plastic barrels). Add to that, unless you have a way to water using some gravity-feed system, you might be spending more in electricity to operate a pump.

Supposedly 'technically' illegal in Colorado too(due to the way some old laws about interfering with drainage basins or waterways was written?), but, I don't think anyone has been punished that has a rainwater collection system.

interesting thread.

Around here they have to be the type with spigot and insect proof top. Very little water is saved due to the lack of rain during the watering season. They are cool. But around here that is about all they are.
