I have an old mower that wasn't running quite right. About the time I was going to try to fix it, I pulled the cord to start it and it caught on fire. I got it out, but it was pretty much gone by the I did. Is there anything you can do with an old, burned up lawn mower besides throw it away?

Maybe you could see about parting it out depending on what was damaged in the fire. If any of the engine parts, wires or whatever are salvageable I would consider it.

Believe me, if I had a gadget, mower or whatever, that caught fire while I was sitting on it, I'd pay someone to haul it away rather than have it sit around as a reminder....:biggrin:

Back in the middle 70's my step dad had this 3 wheeler ATV and he hopped it up with a snomobile engine, my brother and I were trying to climb hills at a gravel pit with it, well the darn thing did a wheelie and came over backwards on me and the muffler burnt my left arm bad. When it came over backward on my step dad it broke his nose and rolled down the hill and caught fire, he gave it away the next day...:biggrin::laughing:

Oh, it got plenty hot. It took us a few minutes to get it out and burning real good (or bad).

All the suggestions sound good to me. Maybe I could give it as a gift to my friend who used to give me his junk that I ended up having to get rid of.

Seriously, my wife suggested we make a type of dolly with it. The motor's too far gone to do anything with, but the deck and handles are good. Does anyone have any thoughts about that? Would it actually work?

remove the engine mount a sheet of plywood over the deck, allow room for the wheels & she is right ... you will have a rather unhandy wagon to drag things around on... it might be OK depending on what you load it up with... :smile:KennyV

I think this is one of those projects that you have to think wisely about. Is repairing it really going to do you much good? How about converting it? Maybe you could make a generator with it if you have the right parts.

I have had some luck before but nothing like that, at least lucky and outside of the house. The other day I went to cook something in a new house warming gift that we received........one of those convection ovens, it damn near cooked the pizza well done, spark fire and all. Guess who isn't allowed to cook anymore.

That's worse than me burning up my mower and probably a scarier, too. How'd it happen anyway?
