Unlucky Days

The past two days have been very unlucky for me. Here is how the bad parts of them went.

Yesterday....3:00PM: Went out to mow a lawn. I got the front done, then had to stop because the sky was as black as night and I didn't want to be stuck outside during a severe thunderstorm.

Today.....8:30AM: Was about to finish a lawn when it started to rain, lightly at first. I finished up the trimming, but then the rain got harder as I finished blowing off the sidewalk. I got soaked!

Today....11:20AM: Grass was dry enough to start mowing and then after getting the front and side yard done it started to pour so I stopped. I tried to blow off the driveway....which is hard when the grass is stuck to the wet concrete! It then started to thunder. I got so wet...again!

More steady rain moved in....so no more mowing today!

:laughing: Join the Club. Down here in Florida that's an everyday occurrence, there called east and west Sea Breezes colliding. We start out with wet lawns everyday. Between the rain from the day or night before and walking out the door like this morning with 84% humidity we never get a chance to dry out.

Yeah...my lawns were soaked with dew when I started, anyway!

In the last week it has rained twice. Four days the first tie and three days the second time. We were on the verge three weeks ago of being too dry. Don't see that happening now for a while. Hopefully to at all this summer in fact.

Yeah I am still on a 5-7 day mowing schedule with my lawns. Usually by this time I only have to mow them once every two weeks.

Don't you remember how much fun playing in the rain was when you were a kid? What happened to that? Next time I'm off and it rains I'm taking my 4 and 5 year olds out to jump on the trampoline.

Well we have not had rain in awhile! And last week had highs 95+ degrees (not to mention a dew point in the mid 70's and a heat index around 105!). See picture. So the grass is drying out, and I'm going from a 7 day cycle to around a 10+ day cycle for lawns for now.

I would love to go a day with no rain. We have a flash flood warning every day for about two weeks now.
We get to some yards and just take a pic of the standing water and move on to the next

(( racing is the only sport that you need two balls ))

I don't like mowing when the grass is the LEAST BIT wet!!!!! And it's been like that a LOT lately here in Middle TN:0(
It sticks real bad all over my new Gravely ZTR and takes me twice as long to clean it up and make it brand-new purty again:0) Heck, Iv'e got 23.5 hours on the ZTR and already about 50 hours cleaning it afterward. I'm so obsessive/compulsive about keeping it looking like the day I brought it home that it's probably gonna get detailed and a wax job at the end of the season. Anybody know a good therapist????:0)

Yeah....I clean my Honda but it will never look as good as the day it came back from it's "winter tuneup"! See first picture. The second picture is after many spring days of dirt and pollen. :confused3:

Man.....that first picture looks like a brand new mower!!! So who did the "winter tuneup"???? And did it look like the second picture "before the winter tuneup"???? And I thought I was anal about having my mower look clean.....maybe both of us need some serious therapy:0)

But, I've always said(about my automobile/truck engines....which I also clean regularly)...."a clean engine is a happy engine"!!! Also, even my mechanic when he works on my 1995 Silverado Z71(that has over 230K miles) can't believe how "new" my engine looks!!! I'm a firm believer that the worst enemy an automobile engine has is a dirt/grime/oil/etc. "buildup" all over it that makes the cooling system hard-pressed to keep it from overheating. Of course my mechanic seems to agree with that philosophy.

Also. It makes it easier to spot problems when stuff is clean :)

The dealer I got the mower from did the tuneup. And it wasn't that dirty before the tuneup, but if you look at the link below the pictures it shows you what it did look like.

Rain seems to be annoying everyone at the moment, would be nice if the sun appeared for 5 minutes or so. That way we could get back to work in our gardens!

I've always kidded around that the dirt is what holds my cars together:wink:

i have had to wait for the grass to get really high to cut it because its just so dry! my grandfather (who is 95 and still loves to mow with his craftsman) burnt his lawn! he was so aggravated with himself. he luckily has a brooke that runs through his property so he just watered his grass with that water so he didnt empty his well. (of course i helped him because he isnt exactly as strong as he used to be) i havent burnt any yet so i guess i know what im doing!
