Universal oil

Some of my equipment uses 40:1 and some 50:1. My Stihl dealer suggested a "universal" oil. Yesterday my chainsaw had almost no power and was hard to keep running. I dumped the gas oil mix and got a fresh gallon of 87 octane and a fresh bottle of Stihl brand 50:1 in the silver bottle. Once I got the mix in the fuel line burned out it seemed to run OK. I hope that was the problem. I guess I will find out today. The mix was a couple of months old, but was 87 octane alcohol free.

I run 50:1 in everything.
Never had any problems.

Ams oil 100:1 in everything that is 2 cycle never had a problem. I even use it in my antique Artic Cat which called for 16:1.

Appears that is not the problem. It is still sluggish until warm.

Where was your gas stored at? Stihl is now recommending 89 octane or higher but that is for the gas with the 10% and 15% ethanol content and keep using the Stihl HP Ultra mix.
50:1 is the norm, most run 40:1 to keep everything lubed better but I am using 44:1 now since my mixing cup states that.
