Tranny going bad?

Does anyone on this post know if the John Deere 42” L110 transmission have this same issue? My neighbor’s JD is making a loud almost knocking like sound when engaging the tranny in the forward position. This happens with or without the blades engaged.
NOTE: I don’t believe the drive belt or idler pulleys have ever been replaced.

A knocking noise will be the belt, or the pulley spinning on the shaft
Hydros scream or howl they don't knock unless the diff or axel is broken .

Thanks, I’ll order a new drive belt, idler pulleys and bushings. Where can I get hold of a JD Parts list for the L110 (2003)? I want to be sure and get the exact replacement parts he needs. Thanks again for your help we want to keep this great 19 year old lawn tractor going.

JD have all of their parts lists on line
Down side is you can only print them off one page at a time
I always advise JD owners to buy a download of the JD Technical manual,

Thanks, I’ll search for the JD Technical Manual on this L110 I believe it’s a late 2003 model. It’s got the Koehler engine and we have kept it maintained and has been very reliable so far. Seat cover is coming apart and needs replacing. Again, thanks for your help.
