Toro Wheel Horse 15-38HXL

Hi,
My Toro 15-38HXL will not start. It behaved like a bad battery: A brief clicking sound when turning the key, then nothing. Tried to jump it off from the car, but it did the same thing. At that point I should have suspected something else, but I thought the battery was so far gone it wouldn't take a jump. So I put a new battery in.

Did the same thing. Now I suspect the starter. I removed the started, hooked it directly to a battery and it spins and the bendix gear pops up every time juice is put to it. So it must be something between the battery and the starter right?

This is the extent of my knowledge. What should I look for next? Is there a relay or something after the ignition? I assume the ignition itself is okay because I did hear some clicking at one point after turning the key.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Bill

Hi there
I'm new here so don't kill me if this advice is not sound, when I picked up my Toro 12-38 Hxl mower I read up on a few bits of info to enable me to get it running again, from memory there is a process you have to follow to enable you to start it,I think you have have the p.t.o disengaged, handbrake on and maybe foot brake applied, you must be sitting on the seat as there is a cut out switch under the seat,I don't know if this information applies to your machine but maybe worth a go?

Kindest regards

Terry (the Limey)

P.s could be the solenoid ? Or bad wire connection!

Some very good advice here. I would think you would know this information? I am thinking more into the PS part of it, solenoid or wire connection.
