TORO vs. HUSQVARNA?

Which ZTR mower would you recommend---the Toro Timecutter or a Husqvarna ZTR? Which one leaves a better cut w/ no clumps of grass left behind, and is build-to-last?

What is the cost of the machines? and where are you buying from?

$2,800-3,500. Buying them from a hardware/mower store, not Home Depot or Lowes!

Hardware/mower store, Home Depot or Lowes not a lot of difference there. About the same with the mowers, neither is really built to last an extended period of time if the mower is used on a regular basis, and I don't really know of a mower that will not leave clumps of grass in the right conditions.

Ok thanks for the advice. The reason I was thinking about getting one there is because a local place that sells just mowers doesnt sell that brand. But I think i am going to get a mower that they DO have at the local store anyway.

You must have had a bad experiance with your local mower shop. Because the best place to purchase a mower or hand held out door equipment would be from your local dealer. Better sales information and service all around. What you buy at a big box store is what you buy. And remember just because a dealer is licensed to do warranty work doesnt mean that they have to. And a good local dealer will always take care of their sales customers work prior to any big box store purchased item. I know that if I am working on equipment that was purchased some where else and one of my customers show up with their equipment, I will sit the other aside and TAKE CARE OF "MY" CUSTOMER FIRST!

Im with you on this one. Support your local dealer and they support you.

As for the poll its a difficult one.
Husqvarna bought Dixon a few years ago who are the original and best ztr manufacturer for years but took ages to go to hydrostatic transmission and everybody else caught up.
If they use dixon as their ztr then it would be a good mower.

Toro are equally as good.
The 36" deck is better due to its not a timed deck like the 42".
Depends if you are just cutting lawns or doing rough work aswell

Yeah I would be cutting lawns. But as you can probably see, I have decided to not get a ZTR (yet), and I just upgraded to a way better Honda mower.

I would pick the Husqvarna if you get the welded deck 3 blade spindles kaw eng , 42 cut should be around 3400.00 , toro has the mx 42 it only has 2 blade spindle
around same price , by the way dixon is husqvarna just blue .

I would have to go with the Toro. As you know I have the timecutter myself, and I use it commercially. It is built well, and I have seen them take a lot of abuse and keep going. If you get one though, fill your front tires with slime. I would recommend the toro. Makes my life easier.

What model Timecutter do you have, A_tank96? The SS 5000?

I have the z4200. As far as I know they are the models from 2005 ot something to 2010. Toro re designed the timecutter, so i dont know about the ss timecutter. Mine is the 42 inch model 19 horse kohler. Got it used with like 70 hours on craigslist for 1750. No problems yet except the front tirrs always go flat.

If those tires keep going flat, go and buy tubes, it's a lot cheaper than tires. I put tubes in both rear tires on the Grandstand and they hold air very well. $18.00 each, your fronts shouldn't be that much.

I did buy some slime to go in them. Thought about the slime tubes for tubeless tires bu i couldnt find them anywhere. I read a lot of good reviews on the slike, hoping it works for more than two years.

The slime will work good and should solve your problem, just make sure if you ever have the need to have the tire replaced, tell them you used the slime in the tires cause it's real messy for someone changing the tire if there unaware and they tend to get real upset if there not told in advance.

If that came to be i would probably just let the air out clean out the slime myself and then take it to the shop.

Why not just take the 10 mins or less and change the tire your self. And save your money.

If you were to bring a tire into our shop and most dealers around here with a slime type product in them, you will be paying for a new tire. We replace, as the cost for us to try to clean and solve a leak problem will cost more than replacing the tire.

The only thing I used slime in was my motorcycle tires and that was because the shop recommended it. It works great but it is nasty stuff.

Thank god your still alive after doing that.
There are to many bike wrecks every year from people doing that.

It's a fast fix to get you home or to a shop bit at high speeds your just asking for trouble.

Well i guess i just dont know how to change a tire. We only have one tire iron, and we do have an air compressor, but its those front small tires i have to deal with. I have heard a lot of people say its hard to chane thos front caster tubeless tires. My firend works at a tire shop and he uses ether, to fill it up quick, but i dont have ether......

The little front tires are a pain in the butt.

Takes practice I use two screwdrivers and a hammer to take them off and put back on then use a ratchet strap around the tire to get it to sit on the bead.
A little starting fluid and a match works well also.

There are to many bike wrecks every year from people doing that, Using Slime?? I've rode Motor cycles for a lot of years and have seen a lot of motor cycle wreaks but I don't know of any that were cause by using Tire Slime. Tire slime has been around for years and if ti was causing wreaks and killing people I'm sure they would pull it off the shelves.

I guess your right and the MMA is wrong.

The product called "Slime" is a liquid sealant recommended for Off Road and Slow Speed tires. I would not recommend the use of any sealant or patch as more than a temporary fix. Some shops may even refuse to mount a tire on a wheel so treated. In any event, your tire changer will be angry when they break that tire down and you adorn their tire changer in slippery green slime.

There are probably other, balance related issues related to its use. For example, (not an issue in TX, but..) does it freeze? If so, it will not be able to disperse properly when you ride. This will throw your tire balance off however many ounces of product you injected. A couple ounces is a BIG deal in a motorcycle tire.

I use it in my car, but never in a bike. If that stuff does not coat evenly you get a non-balanced tire and lots of vibration. Also the goop is not intended for long term use, it is temporary, so you can get to a garage to repair/replace the tire.

I would not want some goop being the only thing between myself and a crash..

Do not use Tire Slime in Motorcycle Tires.

You can:

1. Replace the tire.
2. Plug it with the string type plug.
3. Take off the wheel and take it to a shop to install a plug-patch.

I would think you could be at least original with your posting. You know they're are a lot of different company's that make a slime type products or alike and all have different purposes. Some are for tubeless tires, some are designed to be used with tubes, some are designed as sealers others for sealers and balancers. All are sold at motor cycle shops and are perfectly safe if used properly and for there intended use. The originator of the post stated that Slime" is a liquid sealant recommended for Off Road and Slow Speed tires which would be true but I didn't use that kind in any of my motorcycle tires. I'm smart enough to know what to use for what I want to accomplish. I used sealer and balancers like the one in the video below in my motor cycle tires for years and never had a problem.
