My toro recycler is leaving a trail of grass behind it when mowing and doesn't pick as much up in the bag as it used to. It also stalls out in high grass and I don't think it did before. The only thing I could think of is that the blade isnt lifting the grass enough. I havent replaced it in a long time and it has major dents and dings in it. Could it be the blade or something else?

The two easiest fixes that I could think of would be from A) dull/damaged blades; or B) too much grass stuck to the underside of the deck.

Simple fix. Get a new high lift bagging blade and clean the underside die the deck. Also, you should not be cutting for than 1/3 the height of the grass to bag properly. That means if the grass is 6" high, mower height should be set at 4".

I bought a new blade but the one that's in there now is a toro atomic blade. It's basically a gator blade but I'm not sure If its high lift. There is no grass stuck under the deck because I always clean it. I'll try the new blade today

If it is like a gator blade then no it has no lift.
A gator blade is made to keep the grass under the deck

There are high lift gator blades. Make sure that you are not cutting grass that is to long. Rule of thumb is cut only 1/3 of grass height, for best Grass is 6" high, set mower at 4". Cutting wet or heavy grass will always leave clumps.

Does it affect the cut quality If the blade has a a lot of dents and chunks taken out of the sharp sides of the blade?
