Just a little update.......Even though it's cold up here and I said that I'll probably wait for spring before I dig into it, I could not help myself. Milder temps found me out in the garage examining my new/old purchase. Looking it over, I see that it is a 1977 model 7260G. The previous owner said it had no spark, well, much to my surprise, it has a fat, healthy spark. And fuel is getting to the carb and primer, but no start. At least it looks like I won' t have to buy a new coil.

Just knowing that it has fuel and spark puts my gearhead to rest until the end of hibernation.

Merry Christmas everyone!

C'mon!!!!! You know you want to pull the muffler cover off and inspect the ports. Could just be clogged. Lol. I find myself doing the some thing. Before I know I'm all in.

Oh, how right you are!! Don't think for a moment that I haven't turned that one over in my head. I've already thought about taking it to work next Sunday where I could work on it in a heated workshop (I am a soon-to-be retired fire fighter). Old Lawn Boy disease runs deep. We all know that temporary relief is found when, by the simple touch of your wrench, those sweet little 2 stroke motors come back to life. My wife doesn't get it, but men who are motor heads do!! If it follows me to work, and if I get a chance to perform exploratory surgery, I'll certainly report my findings.

I got it running today! Took it to work today (actually was sunny and in the forties here) and had some time to look at it. Got the muffler off and found the exhaust almost totally plugged with carbon. Cleaned it out and had it running real nice in about 25 minutes. It will still need seals and a good cleaning but that can wait. I did clean the deck and the wheels and, I must say, it's a very pretty machine. Now if only I had some fresh green grass to cut.

This mower hadn't run for about 5 years. Getting it going again made my day.

Glad to hear you got it going. It's a great feeling to hear an old motor run again. I just got into lawn boys this past summer after finding one at a yard sale. They're pretty scarce around my area. I think most of them got scrapped a long time ago.

I hope that you are able to find more of them. I would not call them scarce around here, but there seems to be fewer and fewer of the older ones around where I live. I find myself keeping an eye out for the ones that are in nicer condition that have been abandoned. I found out today that if I would not have come along and purchased this mower, the owner was going to scrap it. He had it listed on CL for a couple of months. I cannot figure out why it did not sell right away, considering the condition it was in. Scrapping it would've been a crime! I'm glad I checked it out (about 100 miles from my home) and snagged it. His price was a bit on the high end, but it was worth it to me, even though I had to drive a distance to see it.

Stay on the look-out. It's a fun little hobby.

Glad you were able to save it from being scraped. It look kinda like my 1976 7226. I think it needs new reeds and carb gaskets. The wheels are very wobbly on it as well. It will make a fun project when I get around to it. Right now I'm focused on my 8243ae. I should be getting the coil any day now. Already rebuilt the carb and just need to put it back on. I still gotta find an air filter cover for it. I'm hoping to come across a complete pull start f series for parts so I can mount the pull start assembly on mine. I like the idea of having electric and pull start. I love working on small engines and Lawn Boys are so unique. I'm really glad I found the 2 I have.
