I have a JD LA 135 with a Briggs and Stratton 22 hp OHV V Twin engine and last summer had trouble starting it. Sometimes I would pour a little gas down the breather and it would run fine. This spring my bro in law and I tore down the carb and soaked it in carb cleaner put it back on and it ran like a champ...after 2 weeks of sitting up I'm back to where I started. I've drained the tank put in fresh gas but no help..any ideas on where to go next with this ?

Have you check your fuel pump outlet flow.

Take the fuel line off the pump and put it in a container to keep. It from spraying fuel around if it is working. Glass or plastic bottle works. Pour a small amount of fuel into the carb and start the engine. If the pump is working, you will see fuel being pumped into the bottle. A partner helping you makes this easy. I like using spray carb cleaner instead of gas, as it is easy to keep the engine running. If the pump is working, you'll have to have the carb cleaned and rebuilt.

Tonite I put a little gas in the carb and mowed my grass ran great, and started again when I shut it off , you still think the carb is dirty or maybe something else..

If it was me and you were able to use the unit the way it was supposed to work, I would not pull the carb. I would purchase a product called SeaFoam and dump a 1/4 of the can in the gas with a full tank. I would do this four times, use up the can and if everything runs right we will assume problem solved.

I had a JD L120 and had the same problem. I checked and did what you have done. My last chance was to change the fuel filter and it worked right every since the fuel filter change.
Good Luck,
