Found this as well.
"You can purchase PVC pipe at Home Depot and cut poles to fit inside the pole attachment sleeve that's sewn on the bottom of the pockets."

So from this picture I am guessing it is 3/4" and 12" to 14" long PCV pipe. An average hand is 2.5" to 3" and you can put 3 or 4 hands on it.
