Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

Chuckster!

I'm not certain that reading every single post on this forum is good for anyone's mental health! I guess as long as you can read it and then sit back and laugh a little and say, "What a bunch of idiots!" Then you'd be OK...

I had to laugh at Boo-Boo's orange shutters! He is not a man to be trifled with! Vindictive bugger! I tease him all the time, but I often worry about waking up and finding a horses head in bed with me, know what I mean?

We have rain again today, but we went out and hauled traps early (0530) as it was slack tide then. Lousy day, with only two keepers, but we had eleven keepers the day before yesterday! We are keeping large crabs now too. Some friend of Bill's wants them and say he'll pick out the meat and share it 50/50.. I suspect he has never picked crabs before. It is time consuming as hell and would be worth more like 75/25. I expect he'll figure that out quickly enough!

So, besides your undying interest in lawnmowers, what else 'floats your boat"?

Roger

Well, lets see.
1. Scuba. Being in the mid part of the country does not allow for much of it but I still love it.
2. Cars. Or better yet making fast cars. 3 years ago me and my oldest son rebuilt his Mitabetchi Eclipse turbo and ended up with around 600 wheel HP. That was a screamer. I have been working on cars since I was 13 or so. My mom had me fix hers all the time to stop me from "repairing" everything in the house.
3 Mowing. I have been mowing commercially for 5 years now. It is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. I run the whole show. One man band. I wish I could find someone to do the weed eating but that has not really worked out too well. Some people just do not understand the butchering grass is not the way to keep a customer.
4. I have an adoped 2 year old and a 7 year old grandson. Need I say more on this?

Some things I do not do. I do not fish. No one will go with me anymore. If I go no one catches anything. So I gave that up a long time ago. I do not allow anyone to really bother me except for my family. If you are not related or a good friend then I do not care about what you have to say. It is just that simple. So I can read every post and keep up with all of them wether I am commenting on them or not without it bothering me.

It is really amazing to me that I can make so may friends on here. I think this thread, in particular, has made me a little more open with people. I am not a recluse but I virtually find most people unfreindly to say it kindly. I have alway thought I was born to early. My mind set fits the older generation much better than mine or younger.

OK that is enough for now. I am just ramblening.

Re: Paint Story

Seeing how Boo-Boo has got us thinking about paint, especially inappropriate colors of paint, it reminded me of when I was teaching at FLTASWSCOL SDIEGO back in the early 70's. It was coming up on Christmas and the students had special liberty, but the instructors had to come in every day and they wanted us to paint our classrooms. So I went to my boss (an E-8 Sonarman) and asked what color he wanted me to paint my classroom. His exact words were, "I don't care what color you paint it! Paint it titty-pink if you want!" He shudda known better.... But, I didn't paint it pink, I painted it yellow, which had to be mixed at the paint shop and came out a 'little' brighter than I thought it would. I painted the trim gloss black and my students called it "The Electric Banana Room" from then on.. Sorry I don't have any pictures.. Wish I did!

Chuck,

I used to love SCUBA diving. I started in the late 50's and attended Divers Training Academy which at the time (1963) was in Ft Lauderdale, FL. I came out with a SCUBA Instructors and Commercial Shallow Water Divers certificates. I've been diving from the coast of Maine to the Florida Keys back before the John Pennekamp park opened up, and when there were still coral reefs everywhere down there. I been diving around the USVI's in the Caribbean and around Oahu and Maui Hawaii as well as parts of SOCAL. I've been a lucky boy.

I wish I had started working on cars when I was younger. In all honesty, that is why I am here learning from you guys! I would love to restore a full size tractor, but I know my limitations and decided to learn what I can from smaller machinery. (Costs less and I have a better chance of out-living the project!) What really bummed me out was that recently I was offered a Ford 8N for a very reasonable price, but it required more work and $$ than I felt I could provide and I passed on it. I'll probably never have that chance again..

My stepson has his own landscaping/mowing/property maintenance business and mostly works on his own although not that his daughters are getting older, he does employ them once and a while. He seems happy in what he does, but it keeps him very busy and I wish he had more time to go fishing with me.. (Although our last trip must have had you there in spirit... We didn't catch zip!!)

I think most Maine folks feel the same way you do about people in general.. We have a saying, "Guests and fish are the same. They both start to stink after three days!" My other half and I worked very hard to find a part of Florida that wasn't inundated with humanity so we could spend part of our winters there.,. We were quite successful until we hooked up with Boo-Boo and his wife, (who is an artist with impeccable taste, I must say) and now we have friends to contend with... Nah, I'm just kidding!!! We did find a quiet part of Florida's West Coast that we've enjoyed very much, and we've made lots of friends down there, including Ted and Linda.. But we do not like 'lots' of people and tend to be reserved about making new friends until we have determined that we'll fit in with them and they'll fit in with us. We liked Boo and his "wifey" right away...

Making 'friends' on-line, especially among like-minded folks, is pretty easy.. Especially because when you get sick of them they disappear at the click of a button!,,,LOL

Mitsubishi is an interesting company. It's name comes from "Mitsu" - meaning "Three" and bishi - ( which comes from ishi) and means "water chesnut", which by some fluke of Asian thinking, (that is totally undecipherable by Western observers), magically becomes the "Three Diamonds" in their logo. (Water chestnuts, diamonds? Sure, they could be one in the same.. Right?? Hey we're gaijin, what do we know..) The company is old and has always been diversified, but they manufactured the famous Japanese "Zero" fighter planes of WWII. Rice paper and bamboo and they flew!! (Well, that's a bit of a stretch of the truth, but...) I spent some time in Japan, enough so that I DO know that I 'know' NOTHING about them!!)

I have always been leery of Mitsubishi cars, never thought they were very reliable, what is your experience with them?

Boo!! That is absolutely beautiful!! Both Becky and I were impressed by the pictures! Linda must be the artistic one.. You're probably like me and couldn't get flowers in a vase without spilling the water all over hell...

Now we are both truly sorry that we didn't get over to your home! We should have picked a diner closer to that part of the State.. I remember we were almost on Rt-200 when we came out from lunch that day and it just seemed easier to head back to our own digs.. You cudda just grabbed me and said, "Look A-H, we want you to come see our house!" I 'might' have gotten the message then!! Sorry about that and sorry that we missed it.. Hell, I thought you lived on five acres of swamp in a 1982 single-wide with four acres taken up by a lawnmower grave yard and neighbors right out of the movie "Deliverance"! I shudda known the 'wifey' wouldn't have allowed that!

Hey, most likely we'll be back over that way in Jan of 2019, maybe you can find us a cheap rental near by and we can come over and pester the crap outta ya on a daily basis!!
