Re: Ayup, it's Sundey..

Morning all,

Boo,

(This is a PM to Boo, so nobody else is supposed to read it) - I take it this newbie you mentioned isn't posting on this thread. Sorry, I'm too lazy to go hunting for 'it'.

All Hands:

I ain't got no pictures of nekked ladies but I got a problem. A buddy of mine made us a Delrin pulley shive for our electric lobster trap hauler. (We call it a "pot" hauler, but I didn't want to give anybody the wrong idea.) Originally the hauler only had a single pulley shive in front of the main drive pulley and we had to hold the rope down low behind that drive pulley in order for it to grip the rope properly. I had a brainstorm (from watching the haulers on the "Deadliest Catch" TV show) and realized hat we needed another pulley shive down low, in back of the drive pulley, so I made a bracket and an oversized washer for a retainer and Bill ordered a stainless steel pulley shive (3" dia, X 1-1/4" wide) off the Internet. It came from China, gen-u-wine Chinese stainless, which isn't stainless at all! What's worse is, the bearings were plain carbon steel. Needless to say, being washed everyday in salt water has been the demise of the bearings. So, the new high density pulley shive arrived and I installed it and then realized that I should have spec'd a stainless sleeve as the axel support, cut slightly longer than the shive is wide, so the shive is free and it's faces aren't touching ether the bracket or the washer. So, where can I find stainless steel tubing with a 1/2" i.d.?

The first pic shows the original rig with the bracket and washer I made. The second pic shows the Delrin shive sandwiched between the bracket and the rope retaining washer.

Rog

Roger,
Looks like Boo beat me to it but check out McMaster.com for spacers/axle supports. They have great stuff and service.

I think there would be a bunch of us with "black marks on our permanent records" if we worked there. They have a whole bunch of neat (but expensive) stuff.

Fun clearing fallen trees on the back acreage, a decent sized white oak and a giant poplar. The oak is now benches down by the river clearing. The poplar took a bunch of other stuff down with it creating a dangerous tangled mess.

Lucky there weren't any bodies. My neighbors and their dogs were feet away when the oak came down. They are down there every evening. Here's the poplar before I did anything. Hard to tell but that's quite the mess.

Edit - I did all the work on the poplar with my pp-280 pole pruner. It's great for safely cutting up that kind of mess. With multiple limbs under extreme tension and multiple widow makers hung up it's nice to be able to cut from 10 feet away!

Yeah I have an OLD PP 800, 13 Ft. with the Extension, great for small limbs high up but last year I tore my left rotator muscle when trimming a neighbors tree, got to be careful when reaching up high with those things, it snagged a branch above where I was cutting and yanked my arm really good, it's been a lot of Cortisone shots since then, glad I didn't opt for the surgery ......

Doesn't have the Auto-Oiler ya have to fill the reservoir then "tilt" it every so often, OLD School but a fine tool.!!

That is a right mess you have there. I HATE when a tree comes down like that. You are smart to use the "saw on a stick" to clear that mess. Looks lime a lot of fire wood if you need it.

Looks like a nice unit. Bummer on the injury. I have an extension for mine too but I don't use it much. Pretty strenuous to use it at 17 feet long.
