Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

Alrighty,then,
I put out a call to any electricians familiar with LED tubes and the ballasts that love them.

I have single bulb fixtures w/T12 ECO bulbs in them currently.
However, the T8 LED tubes are not compatible.

I see loads of ballasts for T8 bulbs, most of which are for 2,3,or4 bulbs.

The bulbs came with a partial list of ballasts that have been proven to work, but, those cannot possibly be all ??
The tech support is of no help..............

I'm SURE one of y'all will have his thumb on the pulse of this one.....

I am currently doing this every day. So get me the model number of the bulbs you are putting in.

T81636F16-65 Utilitech which, from what I gather, is a Lowe's private label.

Thanks!

I got mine from lightup.com, perhaps they have what you are looking for

Thanks.
they have T8 bulbs, which Is what I bought, but my fixtures/ballasts are T12 and the 2 don't play together....

So, I have to replace the ballasts.

Ron,

If you are replacing T-12 Fluorescent lamps with T-8 Fluorescent lamps, then yes you have to replace the ballasts. Fortunately one new electronic ballast will fire from three to four T-8 lamps, so you only need one ballast for a four-tube fixture. (There are also electronic ballasts available for two-lamp strips fixtures.)

However, if you are replacing T-12 fluorescent lamps with T-8 (size) LED tubes, then I 'believe' that some of the LED tubes are direct wired, meaning they run on 120 Volts AC and you do not need any ballast at all. But!!! You need to check, because I am not positive about that. If direct wired LED tubes are available, then you would simply remove the existing ballast and the rewire the fixture as needed. The sockets will fit both T-12 and T-8 as they have the same base, (Pin arrangement.)

Good luck. And please let me know what you find out.

Electronic controls

the early system 2000 boiler was PLC, then in around 1999 or 2001 they switch to downloadable system upgrade boards.....neat thing was that our service override boards worked on all models, even series 1, so we could just switch boards and run tests through the system to locate faults and many times I would leave my board in the customers boiler till I have the replacement part so they would have heat and hot water for the weekend.......I'm sure if I go downstairs and check in the file cabinet I will find my service board still there.

Doc,

I had the primary control on our boiler upgraded to a Honeywell R7284, which will provide a complete readout on the burners operation with just a few pushes on a couple switches. It has an LED window where you can read the information.

When we got back from FL last April the burner had a problem, but I was able to call my service man and provide him with the read out information and between the two of us I got it running for the evening and then he replaced the failed component the next day. It works great.

What you need is the T8 hybrid bulb.

You can find them cheaper. You remove the ballast and wire direct to 120. The bulbs you got from Lowes are junk. They would not even work with the shop light fixtures they told me to buy with them.

I have replaced the t12 tubes with direct wired LED and they work good. The LED tubes are a bit pricey but no ballast is required and they seem to put out more light with no flicker with instant on. I like the ones that have line on one end and neutral on the other end.

James,

Thanks for the input, I knew they had direct wired LED T-8 tubes. That's what he needs.. (Me too! But, I'm going to wait for the prices to drop some first..)
