There is nothing out there that can cut like the JD997 diesel.. After 17 years cutting grass there is just nothing like it.. Kobota, gravely it all just falls apart. So if u want commercial buy a deer.. We have an. 1145. 1445. And four 997. Go green.

Welcome to this often fun & normally interesting Forum...

I am also a fan of Diesel power, love my Kubotas, there are several John Deere fans here so you will not be alone... You will have to post some pictures as we get into mowing season ... :smile:KennyV

Sure will. But the picks I take r when I get stuck in the mud, or in a ditch that I shouldn't be in. I cut for the catholic school board and the places where I put my 997 u wouldn't even think it would be possible. I'll get some good pic on here to show why green is the champ.

Welcome !

Green is good, but in some situations, I'll put my Ventrac up against a green machine   !

It won't stick to the hills or do ditches like a 997. I have been able tohase out our walk behinds cause I can do all the hills.

The 997 in action. It's looks huge in this video, maybe the biggest lawn mower I've ever seen. Maybe the guy on it is very small?
Oddly enough it only comes in one color:frown:, so: "No Kenny, they don't make one in orange"

With the Dual Wheel set and low center of gravity, I've seen things done with the Ventrac that go beyond factory recommended 30 Degrees.

That's pretty sweet. I have done ditches way steeper that 30 degrees. Hill too. " point down go down "

I find it hard to believe that a Zero Turn 2 wheel drive will go places the Ventrac All Wheel Drive and Dual wheel set (8 tires) can't go.

I'm sure each has their place and yours is GREAT for your uses.

You Love yours and I Love mine ---- each for our own uses.

Sorry but I am skeptical. I like your enthusiasm but lets lay off the koolaid a bit :confused2:. The 997 is a great unit, but I don't think you understand what a 30 degree slope is. 30 degrees with a 997? Maybe up and down with some good bar tires, but you will be turfing and rutting even with turf in pristine condition, my friends was turfing bad at 20 degrees and he was scared to death about rolling.

From the manual for the 997: "Never mow or operate machine on slope angles greater than 10˚. "
Not saying that it can't operate on higher than 10 degrees, 10 degrees is not much at all, just pointing out John Deere's spec and recommendation. Obviously you can do whatever you want
FYI The Yanmar engine is rated @ 30 degrees for 3 minutes, then it has to come off the slope.

Won't speak down about anything, BK is right every unit has its purpose. No point in everyone getting defensive about who has the better tractor, let the units speak for themselves  I just know our dealer in Kitchener or Brantford would love to come demo a Ventrac for you, maybe you can call him next time you get stuck

Also, Slater has a good point. While you can go over 10 degrees with your 997, the 10 degrees is set by John Deere for safety purposes and safety is the key here. Don't take a tractor on 40 degrees just because you can, be smart with what your doing!

Looks both huge, and hungry, to me. Maybe that operator is small.
