Toro zero turn with a 18 hp kohler cv492s that threw a rod. I have a friend who has a riding mower he will give me a briggs engine out of. It has a 17.5 hp briggs intek. Im thinking of trying to swap that in. Any one done any swaps like this. I know some of the wiring will need to be modified. Just not sure to what extent. I know shaft is the same size. Not too worried about it bolting up. I can drill holes if needed. What other complications have you guys run into doing these type of swaps.

It looks like the exhaust is in just about the same spot as it would have been with the kohler. Havent looked up close at the throttle setup. Looks like it should work. Carb is on the same side of the engine. Anyone know of any wiring diagrams that are avaliable?/

Another thing does the Briggs engine have electric PTO? If not it may not keep battery charged enough for electric Pto Manual pto usually have smaller alternators that engines that come with electric pto.

So you gave up hope on rebuilding the Kohler. You know your skills and equipment better then anyone on this forum. Yes for sure you will run into problems with this swap but with a little know how you should get pass any problems OK. Being around motorcycles I have seen some real amazing work. Send us some pictures

Not the best engine to swap with.
Intek singles tend to blow head gaskets with regular monotony between the push rod tunnel & cylinder.
They are the domestic engines of slightly less reliability than Kohlers Courage series
On the ZT at least it is very accessible, just watch for the plug fouling. or excessive crankcase venting.

Im pretty sure it should handle the electric PTO. It has a 9 amp alt. I think that is the min to run it.Please let me know if im wrong. I would like to rebuild the kohler. But it would cost about $150 to do so and i can get this motor for less then that. It may not be the best motor. But should do for now. I honestly think its a better motor than the kohler. I do like the newer kohlers. But this era of them was not great. We ran these kohlers on some machines at work years ago. After the typical blown rod we junked all of them and put 16 hp briggs van gaurd v twins. Ill post some pictures as i get it together.
