Hi. I recently acquired a non-running Stihl FS46C trimmer from one of my lawn care customers. I have no use for it but my son recently moved into a hillside cottage that has steep slopes and he said he could use it as all they have there now is a corded electric trimmer. So I dropped it and the Honda Harmony II mower that I was also gifted to me with a friend who recently retired from an equipment rental and sales (Husqvarna) shop. He did the carb work and got it running but discovered that the spring for the easy start was broken and asked me to get one for him to install. There were two different easy start versions used on these units and mine is the one that's held together with a bolt/screw, not a clip. I was amazed to find out from a Stihl dealer that the spring comes as a cup and spring assembly and the cost is $37. The dealer says that they have a complete assembly listed for the other style easy start style but not mine. The dealer didn't know if they were compatible.
I checked online and I see the housing and easy start assembly can be purchased pretty cheap, but they all appear to be the other version of the easy start. I don't really even need an easy start - my son is a big strong 23 year old but I'm guessing that converting to a standard start pull start would require several new parts to retrofit it. So the question is what are my options that won't cost me a lot? Can I use the other style easy start assembly on my machine? Or can anyone provide a part number for my assembly or the cup and spring and a USA source? I'm already in about $60 between my mechanic's cost, a length of pull cord and some .080 trimmer line for it so I'm pretty much committed to finishing the repairs on it.
Thanks in advance.
