have a cub cadet sltx1054 38 hrs on it changed the oil after working it for 2 hours so oil was nice and hot.refilled with oil to just on the full mark. tried to start it. fired for one second and then just cold cranked switched off and tried again ,just cranked over and didnt fire.left it and went and had a beer. tried again this morning same thing fired for 1 second and that was it. checked fuel lines up to and including either side of fuel pump -plenty of fuel. next checked if plugs were oiled up and they were fine. Anybody got any suggestions please. DoubleD

Did you knock any wires off when you changed the oil like maybe the carburetor solenoid wire?

Since I am not familiar with your particular engine--my first suspect would be that the engine may have an oil pressure safety system. No oil pressure--No start:thumbsup:
I would try removing the spark plug/plugs, and spinning the motor over for a while--would be a good time to check fireing during the procedure.

I have seen some engines with a low level cut off but not a low pressure. You may have that option. I would guess you would have to look for a wire that goes to the block or presure switch and if so disconnect it and see what happens.

I would look for loose wiring around the carb... Also that mower as the reverse mower non sense, check that it is not shutting down the ignition, (why they market that as an "advantage") I can only guess...
That Kohler Courage engine has no low oil pressure kill system...

Your problem sounds more like fuel solenoid is not opening to allow fuel into the carb, like reynoldston has said... You could verify that by spraying starter fluid, WD40 or anything flammable into the carb....:smile:KennyV

Merry Christmas, I heat my house with wood, but I sure would like to know more about your wood fired oven and cooking your turkey. As I also think about it and looking out my window at snow on the ground you would be mowing grass.

It sure sounds like some good food and would love to see it. Is it something homemade , bought, or antique. Just how does it work?

Seeing that it runs a few seconds you have everything to make it run. ( compression, spark, timing,) It sound like it is getting enough fuel to keep running. You say it is getting a good flow of fuel to the carburetor. I sure don't know what changing the oil has to do with it not ruining. It just seem in my years of working on mowers I ran across a Kohler that had a low oil level cut off switch once. So for some reason the fuel isn't going through the carburetor and that was the reason I asked about the carburetor solenoid. The next thing I would do is pull the carburetor off and check the float and needle valve and any dirt in the carburetor.

Remember the motor holds a little more than a QT depending if it has an oil filter .
Take the spark plug out and rotate the engine ( by hand is best ) so the oil gets moved around . Recheck oil level install spark plug and try again .

If an engine has "splash lubrication"--you are accomplishing very little by hand rotation:wink:

Found the problem. Tracked the solenoid wire back to the connectors by the starter motor and found the wire was broken, must have knoked it when removing the oil plug and trying to fix a container to collect the oil.THANKS for all your help and suggestions guys have a great holiday. sun shining and 28Centigrade.

That was the wire I told you about on the first post. Congratulations on finding the problem. What I want to know was how well did your turkey come out, and did you have a nice Christmas.

Hi If you tipped the mower the wrong way whilst emptying out the oil it could have transferred into the fuel. Id replace the fuel the remove the spark plug and pull the engine over a couple of times check the plug clean it anyway and try again.

Hope this helps.

I guess I don't understand why the mower has to be tipped to empty the oil on a cub cadet sltx1054 or am I missing something here?
