You likely have valves out of adjustment...
Watch this YouTube to see the problem... : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cWoEk5Guos

DWINT----Get in line because you are going to get really mad at me. I'm not a moderator or administer on this form, just a memberwho likes to help out, but you have finally got to me. You keep posting quess on how to rebuild or repair your unit. The problem I have with you is that you don't listen to the answers you are given and assume that the poster is leading you in the wrong direction. You never try the suggestions and when no one answers you start another thread. "WHERE DO THE BLACK AND RED WIRES GO????". I've seen this to often. If you want help, then you at least have to try the suggestions. I'll probably get a nasty note for posting this, but if they don't like this pull my membership. Rivets

If you hook jumper cables up and it still spins over slow then ADJUST THE VALVES

Nothing makes me more pissed off then someone that asks for help then acts like they know more than you

What do you mean you get no answers? I gave you all the info you need to correct your problem under your post WHERE DO THe RED AND BLACK WIRES GO. As far as safety switches go, if the PO removed them, then he/she is a complete fool. If you removed them, then you are the complete fool. Safety switcheds are there for a purpose, SAFETY.

Take your jumper cables hook them to the truck

Hook the ground to a good spot on the mower now touch the pos to the post on the starter.

that's exactly how I did it this time and when I hit that starter my truck rpm went down a lot and the jumpers got warm.brought the starter to a shop this morning .he said it works fine.there are some videos on you tube and the guy said when you get to top dead center to rotate the flywheel a quarter turn.that I didn't do or understand but I did check my adjustments three times.if you move the flywheel a quarter turn the piston goes back down so im not understanding whats going on

Can you spin the engine over by hand with the spark plug in?

yes you can.

yes you can.

Ok you hooked the starter to the jumper cables and it did nothing but make the cables hot.
I would replace the starter

it tried to spin just like before I adjusted the valves.it didn't change when I adjusted the valves.was watching a you tube video and the guy says when you get to top dead center to move the flywheel a quarter turn which I didn't do
