The mower is five years old and has been in the shop often since the second year we've owned it. It operates about an hour, then starts making a grinding noise and soon after doesn't engage when the arms are pushed forward, especially the right wheel. When the thing cools down it's fine for another hour or so. The repair people can't locate the problem because they won't mow with it for 1-2 hours. After the last time it was in the shop I noticed the right arm has to be pushed a little ahead of the left for the mower to go in a straight line. It seems to me something on the right side is overheating causing the mower to quit moving forward. We tried mowing clockwise and that seems to help a little but eventually the machine does the same thing...begins grinding and stops a short time later.
I was going to try to adjust the arms thinking that might be part of the problem, but am still looking for the user's guide.
Any suggestions?
