Snapper rear engine rider 28 inch mower Model 7800104 or 2013121925
Anyhow , looks solid so I went for it. Engine is a Briggs 12.5 Starts right up. Now my questions and concerns.
Some rocket scientist that knows better than us cut all the wires for the safety switches. I found the seat and mower deck switches (wires cut) . The switches test ok.
I can't find the switch for the clutch pedal. I'm sure it has to be in the rear end some where. I can piece out the wires. And I see they go to an interlock module part 7028606.
Smooth clutch. In any speed the front wheels lift off the ground.
Axel boots... the right one is ripped.
Questions:
1. Does the interlock go bad? Could it be why all the wires were cut?
2 .Is it time to replace the rubber wheel 7053114 so I don't keep lifting the front end when I take off?
3. Is it a job to replace the axel boots or just time and patience?
4 What grease goes in the gear boxes? When on end, is it the lowest plug for filling and checking?
5. Are deck gage kits available anywhere for the 28 inch deck?

This is a nice little mower and while everyone is going for their zero turns or their battery operated mowers, I feel the need to have my Forrest Gump moment.
Thanks , Matt.00101_d1LfweqaHNHz_0CI0t2_1200x900.jpg

Did you find a way to test interlock module PN# 7028606? I have one of these rear engine snappers and was trying to figure out why it wont fire

I wound up replacing it. I think if you unplug it, you disable all the safety switches. I might be wrong, it's been a while. Start off by disconnecting the kill wire on the coil and see if it fires. that will tell you which direction to go.

Hello Mattmotors,

Look up Jim Jackson with Jim's Fix It shop on You Tube.

He has lots of useful videos on these riders and goes into great details about different repairs on a variety of models.

The drive friction pulley has likely been modified from the original "soft start", but that can be corrected. This was a popular conversion years ago.

Back when this mower was made, it was also popular for people to disconnect and bypass safety switches. Many of those people also got hurt or hurt someone in the process. The clutch safety switch is located under the rear as part of the brake mechanism if it has not been totally removed.

Also, that is also why modern mowers have such complex wiring.... to keep people from removing or bypassing safety devices. Mower manufacturers have to do this to keep from being sued by smart/shady lawyers representing absolute idiots.

The interlock device on these was a simple "mystery box" where all the safety grounds were attached and then encapsulated with epoxy to prevent tampering.

I have an earlier version RER with an 8HP and 30-inch deck and the bicycle steering handles.

These early single blade narrow decks did not have a gauge wheel option that I am aware of.

Parts tree has lots of parts illustrations for these if you look it up using your model number.

I've found that a SERVICE manual for the RER's are very handy.
Try flea bay with your model number and see if anything surfaces.
I've found them for less than $20

You have to understand how to operate the Snapper RER. You always start out in 1st speed you then shift to higher speeds without clutching it. Just slowly move the shift lever to the speed you want operate at. If you start out at any speed above 2nd speed it can jump, and you could chunk rubber out of the driven disc. Nice little mower. Had one that was over 30 years old when I sold it and was still running great. Best mower you could put a woman or kid on they won't run their feet into obstacles like they would the hood on other style mowers.
