Snapper/Briggs and Stratton issue

Snapper P2187520 8.75 ft/lbs 190cc Professional Series with a Briggs and Stratton 12S902-0126-B1 and it heavily smokes on startup, more than normal. 15+ years old. Self-propel also quit working but that is a separate issue. On small engines such as this, what entails a "rebuild"? Carb kit?

Well if you don't already have the necessary tools it would cost more than a new to rebuild. Most shop now don't even rebuild these engines. Current direct replacement was 121S02-2025-F1 which is around $300 plus shipping but it is NLA. But the 190CC promo 125P02-0012-F1 (around $320 + shipping) is available.

Spoke to an out of state shop today (will be there next week and had my fingers crossed) and was told Snapper is out of the walk behind mower business. Local shop had no information. Murray purchased the name 10 years ago "and is not same company". I love the Hi-vac design.

As an alternative watch FB marketplace and CL for a similar mower that has a lower hour engine but needs maint, then use that engine.
