Take the mower to the dealer; at this point, it needs to be inspected and evaluated by a pro, and they can tell you what the next steps should be to get it running again.

Yup...talked to the service guy. He said to do one more mowing and then bring it in. He said it would be ok for that little use, but no more. I will be taking it in soon. No offense to my husband, but I should have done this myself. Found out how to remove the cover (YouTube) to reach the belt to put it back in place. Wouldn't be the first repair I've done with YouTube's help.
