My insurance company came and looked my house and shop. Seeing my shop is attached to my house and I heat it with wood they will not insure it as long as I am heating the shop with wood. I can still heat my house with wood OK but not the shop. So I have to close down my repair shop for the cold months seeing that is the only fuel I can afford to heat it with. My trailer is now parked under a big pile of snow till spring.

Doesn't mean you can't use the shop.
Surely you won't let this underwriter run your life.
Did they give you a date that you can use the shop?
You probably use heat for 6 months. That's half your life.
Is this shop a source of income for you?

Get some type of fire protection\detection and tell your insurance company to either adjust the policy or you will get another company.

How far are you from a hydrant or fire station?

It may sound a little crazy but what if you put in some type of ventilation or something would they except something like that or would they still be a PITA.

As I have said before this is just a hobby and it just gives me a little spending money. As I said my shop is attached to the house and agance town building codes to install a wood burning stove. I can heat with different type fuel like gas or fuel oil and its OK. I can just do what I want and heat with wood and no one can stop me because its private home, but if I have a fire my insurance company will turn down all claims and I don't know what the town can do about it. Its sure not going to upset me because I can't do anything about it anyways and that isn't what retirement is all about.

You can put some procedures in place that will mitigate the risk.
If your not worried about it than neither am I.
Have a great winter:wink:
