I have a Scotts 1642 mower with a 17hp Kohler. All 4 engine mounting bolts, apparently, have vibrated out and the engine is loose on he frame. (either that or someone never finished stealing the motor :) )
Without a bolt to use as a guide, I have no idea what size/thread they might be. Can anyone tell me?

If they are not through bolts then they are special self tappers unique to lawnmowers.
Otherwise 3/8 UNC

Go back with a smaller diameter one, that is longer, and use a locknut.
